explain why Bodybuilding isn't gay

Deciding not to shower results in being smelly and dirty and is not socially acceptable.

Deciding not to go on stage and pose will not make you a social outcast.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Deciding not to go on stage means you've wasted years of effort in the gym, a fortune on nutrition and blood sweat guts and tears of hard work, and losing out on a prize and/or sponsor ship, and just missing out on being judged. For a BBer that's WHY you train.

Completely relevant point methinks?

No, it's not wrong. My statement was from my own experience of gay men, should I have said 'in my experience' for you?

Yes, as my experience is completely different and the experience of the people I know is completely different. It's a stereotype that gay men are mostly very effeminate.

Couldn't care for stereotypes, if i did then I would be a gay gangster (bald, muscles and drive a BMW).

I'm not disagreeing with you, but the homosexual men that I know are very camp and effeminate. Albeit I only know a couple (who aren't a couple :p).

Showering is essential for basic hygiene. Much like eating, drinking and sleeping are essential. No one is going to think "gay" for doing any of these things.

Posing on stage is not an essential function of life and is therefore open to the questions "why are they doing this again?" and possibly "is this gay?". These are questions I would ask if I wan't aware of the inner workings of the body building world and all I saw were a bunch of muscular men wearing thongs and fake tan for the pupose of being compared to other men.

I hope that makes sense, I don't think I can make it any more logical.

There are questions you would ask, which is good. This thread is more about people who wouldn't ask, who would just assume that the event is gay.

So how do you show off as much of your physique as possible while wearing full clothing?

Transparent skintight very thin clothing, sprayed on a few microns thick. It would technically meet the definition of "clothing" and would therefore stop bodybuilding being gay according to the arguments put forward in this thread.

I shall rush to patent Angilion's Special NotGay Liquid Clothing immediately.

I guess it depends on how confident/comfortable you are in your sexuality, I can't say I'd ever think "wow those guys are gay" for standing on stage after spending all the effort which I know so well. So I guess you have to ask yourself why you find it gay?

They don't wear thongs anyway just speedos ;)

I think it's ignorance really, and people that don't understand the sport, and the discipline involved. People who aren't interested will make comments like "gay".

It goes back to generalisations again I Guess. I understood your point, but I couldn't see why it would make you think "gay" - that's what I'm struggling to understand. At least you're asking the questions as to "why are these people doing it" rather than assuming. :)

Well if being healthy and loving women is gay. Then well I'm Gay.

I am so gay my friends are all like " That's so damn gay! " FFS! Stop getting chalk everywhere, you can always tell which girls you like because you chalk their faces! WHITE EVERYWHERE!"

My response " OM NOM NOM ".

Surely that is how internet forums work - they're anonymous places in which people can discuss topics and share information. I wouldn't personally want to reveal my actual identity on a forum like this...

You're accusing the OP of hiding behind a forum username simply because he's posted a controversial opinion which has wound people up yet you yourself haven't chosen to register under your real name either.

No,but I don't use my forum membership to Troll.

There are some people who match stereotypes. Some Scottish people are misers, some people from Liverpool are thieves, etc. That doesn't make stereotyping appropriate most of the time.

You've probably passed by or met a fair few homosexual men who weren't camp and you didn't think they were homosexual. Homosexuality isn't so extremely rare that you won't have sat near a gay man on a train, been served by a gay man in a shop, etc.

I've known many gay men. For a while, most of the men I worked with were gay. I've been in clubs where most of the men were gay, because that was the main point of the club. I've had sex with some of them.

In short, I have fairly extensive experience and it points the same way - most gay men are in the average range when it comes to masculinity and femininity. Sure, there are some who are less masculine than Barbie, but that's not most of them. They just stand out a hell of a lot more.

It's a bit wierd to be honest with regards to peoples ignorance.

I'm sure the guys that are calling competitors in this gay, would see Wrestlers as gay too. Because they grapple with other guys in spandex. Yet they probably dont mind it when 2 guys "hug" during a boxing bout.

Ignorance and misconception. But its the worst sort of ignorance, the type where they see themselves as in the right with no intention of actually researching anything they are saying

You could make it more logical by not ignoring the context.

Playing rugby isn't an essential function of life. So going into a group shower after a rugby game with a dozen other men isn't an essential function of life.
