F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

I think only a handful of the circuits had HD equipment, which is why they won't broadcast until they are all up to scratch, which if you consider the aim of the sport and the money spent on that, is a bit odd really.

The only race to be filmed this year in HD was Fuji, and thats only because Fuji TV did the directing. (FOM did the other races)

The F1 In-Cinema "HD" feeds where only upscaled.

*edit*

Here is the start of the Japanese GP in HD, Its the 1st cut which a friend of mine did but he borked the sound :\. I do have a better cut with sound but he also ramped up the quality so the video size is much larger. So I just uploaded this one :p

It opens in VLC player, but looks better in Windows Media Player with the ffdshow codecs.

That Ferrari actually looks quite nice.

I think that those with 'cleaner' colour schemes will look better with the cleaner bodywork; the cluttered bodies of previous years were well masked by millions of logos...

Er I think thats just an artists impression - the new car will (I see no reason why not) have exactly the same logos as before?

That's the rendering I was referring to - Ferrari have always had a solid colour scheme and comparatively few sponsors' logos...

Hehe i just read that and was about to post it :)

this quote got me -
PitPass said:
Honda's costs accelerated 21.9% to £147m in 2007- a record for any UK-based F1 team. While sponsorship revenue dropped to just £7m, during 2007 Honda added 109 staff to give it a total of 667 - again more than any other UK F1 team. And all for just 6 points.
And one of those 109 people was a woman I worked with. I blame her.

There is little usefull knowledge to be taken from any times untill Qualifying 1 in Melbourne.

I have to disagree with that. In general the fastest guys in testing (once the new cars are released), are generally the fastest guys in qualifying/racing, when the season begins.

In the last few years, McLaren and Ferrari have dominated the pre-season testing and have carried that form into the race season.

In 1993, Williams had the best car by miles. In 1994, in pre-season testing, Bennetton were generally the fastest in pre-season testing. Everybody thought that Williams were sand-bagging (why anyone would do this is beyond me) and that there was no way anybody could've caught Williams so quickly. When the season opened up Schumacher/Bennetton won 6 of the first 7 GPs of that year and the only GP he lost was due to being stuck in 5th gear for most of the race.

I cant actually remember the last time a team were great in pre-season testing and then failed to carry that form into the racing season. It hardly ever happens.

In summary, pre-season (Jan/Feb) testing provides a very good indication of which cars/drivers will be the fastest when the season begins. The cars that dominate pre-season testing will almost certainly be the cars to beat in the first few GPs of the 2009 season.

Obviously, the testing times being posted right now are of no meaning to us as the 2009 cars are not being used, though to the teams, the current testing times are very important.
