F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

“The whole point will be, when they get to Melbourne for the first race, the guys will want to leave there with a gold medal. They don't want to leave with ten, eight or six points.”

So, there is still a system for not finishing in the medal places and so they can still hold back if they have room to do so. This barmey system has no advantage whatsoever, even a commercial one.

It seems very much a case of "Its not broken, but lets fix it anyway"

I see Ecclestone and his wife have recently split, I would not wish a marriage breakdown on anyone but I guess she wasn't happy with the rule changes either.

What you don't see is that the benchmark lap time is 55 seconds and that Sato just kept spinning off and hitting the other drivers and ended up being the fastest. ;):p

Ecclestone said:
Everybody understands gold medals and silver and bronze. Nearly all sports are done that way

Let me think:

Motorsport: NO
Football: NO
Cricket: NO
Tennis: NO
Rugby: NO
Athletics: YES

So yeah "all" of them are done that way. Idiot

If this scoring system had been in place for last season, Kubica wouldn't have been anywhere near where he was.
