F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

If McLaren did that time without using the "diffuser rule loophole" then that is certainly impressive.

I'm not impressed.

That time on its own isnt great. It could be that conditions today were better than the previous days. Based on past performance, the BrawnGP cars would be at least 1s faster than the time of Heikki.

Not impressed.

Damn was hoping they would be crap for the whole of testing to get some good odds on hamilton winning the championship.

Hamilton win the championships?! Havnt you seen BrawnGP's testing performance.. everyones jumped ship! All aboard!

A second improvement from yesterday, with a worse driver? I think that's an impressive step forward. Your right that it's still not Brawn-beating, but it's at least competting somewhere near the front of the grid.

wasnt he the one whining about how the jordan team used to have the models for photo opertunities in the pitlane all the time?

its suposed to be an exciting sport not an entertainment buisiness , its the business thats killing the sport.

think of the fans not your bloody wallet.

i doubt any f1 teams even consider it a business and i doubt any are in it for the money

Equally the conditions could have been worse, making that a blistering lap, you dont know really do you.

I'm not sure it is. If BrawnGP were there, they probably wouldve gone 1s faster.

Like I said, the time means little without seeing what the other leading cars are capable of.

Does anyone else feel that team orders will be much more preavlent this season?

If your a team manager and your cars are first and second, the driver in second has won a few more races than the other, you would be very tempted to ask them to "switch" places, possible as early as the second third of the season.

What follows is a copy and paste from about 20 posts up

What team orders? They're banned.

The driver in front will have to develop a problem like fading or overheating brakes. ;)

yeah they just have to be less obvious these days lol
i sure i read somewhere that back in the days of fangio he won 1 of his world championships when his car broke and the team manager made the second driver pull in and gave fangio his car to finish the race, they could do that then lol

At the season-ending Italian Grand Prix, Fangio's Ferrari team mate Peter Collins, who was in a position to win the World Championship with just 15 laps to go, handed over his car to Fangio. They shared the six points won for second place, giving Fangio the World title.

i would have not come in and won the race myself and become world champ

Yep. A true gentleman, Peter Collins.

And that, boys and girls, is the essential difference between a human being.....and a 1950s Grand Prix driver.

I had heard a part of that Fangio story before, didn't realise that Collins was about to win it himself though
I certainly wouldn't do that if I was about to win the championship myself - I wouldn't hesitate to do it if I wasn't about to win it though.
He must have had some massive respect in Fangio as well as being a very good friend.

or wanted to keep his job with Ferrari

Enzo wouldn't have gave a **** which one of them won, as long as one of them did win (though he was apparently deeply impressed by the move). Collins reasoned that he'd get another shot at the title. Unfortunately, he died at the '58 German GP and never got his chance.

thats it, you have to take your chance when it arises, because you never know if you will get another chance and I'm sure fangio wouldn't have done that if the role was reversed

very unlikely, another 1 sec faster would be beyond insanely fast and that might be difficult to achieve now that there diffuser and front wing have supposedly been banned.

All of a sudden you have become an expert on the Brawn car's relative pace, when like me a few weeks ago you was predicted the Brawn would be nailed to the back with more empty Brawn promises :p
