F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Fine thanks, very, very busy but otherwise good.

Yourself?

Meh, homeless and jobless in July but never mind, the F1 season is back so I have something to keep me amused! ;)

Hope all the winter goings on at your place went well.
:)

Anything could happen in the next 30 minut.. week and a bit..

It irritates me that its not now.. HD really does look fantastic and F1 is so well suited + being the "pinnacle" of motorsport supposedly..

It annoys me as well as the picture quality on ITV was shocking with large amounts of pixelization. BBC have said if there is a HD feed available they will use it however its not offered at present by the local broadcasters that film the races.

It is rather shocking that the last year or two haven't been in HD. But thats for another day to discuss :p

Id be supprised if we didnt see the silverstone grand prix in HD. FIA has re-done all the graphics for this year so fingers crossed.

Unless FOM have bought a load of new HD cameras, its not likely :(

Wish Bernie would stop being such a tight fisted pain in the neck!

Well now we have David Coulthard (Fat chin :p) Some one had to accommodate the lack of fat head being around. :D
he always reminds me of a toad or frog, must be the huge chin and wierd eyes, i supose in a way he is the real life crazy frog we just need him humming to the tune on TV :P

Yup, as other people have said, it's not the local TV company that films the races now, it's done by FOM so there isn't any editorial bias.

The big problem with going HD isn't the cameras per se (they aren't inordinately more expensive) it's the bandwidth required to send an HD signal which costs a pretty penny. They should look into using Dirac Pro (developed by the BBC and used during the olympics to send the HD signal over an SD link).

I don't think Bernie will pony up until there's an economic advantage to displaying in HD - that'll be when the majority of broadcast rights holders have an HD broadcast capability.

Quality should be marginally better this year though, as average bitrate on BBC one is around 4.5 mbps vs 2.99 mbps on ITV.

*quietly chokes*

The guy advances £14.5m to Williams, allows the Canadian GP promotor to miss payments on more than one occasion, has pledged to help out the promotor of the German GP to keep it on the calendar, and he's labelled as "such a tight fisted pain in the neck". God I love this forum and it's Bernie hatred.....

when they say "online" on the BBC TV Schedule, do they mean that it will be streamed live, or will we also be able to catch up on practices etc on iplayer? It'd be great if you could watch all sessions on iplayer, I don't mind being up at silly o'clock to watch the quali/race but i'm not quite hardcore enough to be up for the practice sessions.

You cant ignore the fact the broadcasting fees are stuipidly high though, and that the way TV revenue is shared out is questionable. There are a number of areas in F1 where the financial values or costs are a bit strange, so no matter how much they go on about cutting costs in F1 to save it, I dont see Bernie taking a pay cut to help out.

Yes, F1 is his baby, and he works very hard to keep it at the top, but as with most things in F1, its the lack of consistency accross the board that sparks negative comments.

F1 in HD will come however, its just a matter of time. There is the simple matter of the sheer number of cameras compaired to say a foodball match. ut it will happen, and when it does, it will be EPIC!
