F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Welcome news.

Going back to the HD issue, I'm really quite surprised tbh. I follow English cricket too, and on for the last 2/3 years it has been in HD (on sky) where ever the venue was held. And cricket certainly doesn't have the following F1 does, so I'm pretty bemused as to why it hasn't already happened. I know there's more cameras involved, but not THAT many to cause an issue surely?

BTW. A lot of people in here who are supporting BrawnGP are expecting Button to be the leading driver.

Can I ask these people why it is they think that Button will outscore Barrichello, given that it was Barrichello who was showing the better form last year?

Also, hasnt Barrichello been posting faster test times (perhaps someone could look into this)?

Surely, Barrichello will quickly establish himself as the lead driver?

Have to say im actually quite excited to see how things develop with Brawn GP, even if they do have Ross "I look like a little goblin or hobbit" Brawn in charge :D

Was very glad when they were saved, and theyve certainly had an interesting start to pre season testing so far.

Yeah, it'll be great to see Barrichello pick up a few wins, especially as it's got to be his last, or one of his last, seasons :p

Thank god the FIA got put in it's place, by their own rules as well, just hope the FOTA manage to convince them not to implement the crappy scheme for 2010...

And only a week to go! can't wait :D

Cos hes British. That is my main reason.

Yep, since jenson button came into F1 i've wanted nothing more than to see him get a good drive, and win some races.

Looking forward to seeing how hamilton perfoms in not such a great car. In a way would quite like to see him struggle, sounds wierd i know.

Either way looks like we are in for a cracking season. Roll on next weekend :D

The FIA has responded to FOTA's claims, suggesting that its World Motor Sport Council that voted for the changes earlier this week was under the impression that the teams had supported the 'winner takes all' proposal put forward by Bernie Ecclestone.

If they supported the plan why did they put forward the idea of an adjusted points system?

Yeh be nice to go back to 20-30 hours a week :D

Ferrari International Assistance need to accept that Hamilton won fairly and squarely in 2008 and stop interfering.

***edited out because apparently I'm not alowed to get frustrated at the idiocy of calling the FIA Ferrari International Assistance for no good reason***

I now return you to your scheduled whining about how every single rule change the governing body makes is biased towards Ferrari.

Funny how the biggest opposition came from FOTA - the head of whom happens to be none other than the president of Ferrari - Luca di Montezemolo.

Perhaps a little insight into the FIA/FOTA/F1 on your part would not go amiss :D

Montezemolo slams 'absurd' rule changes

Don't go there Type_R, no-one wants to hear it. They only want to wail and gnash their teeth about how the FIA are only there to support Ferrari and make sure that they win every title.

*sigh*

I imagine his interest will go right back up to when he had a decent car before. When the Honda was a regular challenger for the front end Rubens didn't get anywhere near Button. Kimi won the title two years ago and then looked average to massa the following year. I didn't think it was cast in stone that if you win one year you automatically beat your team mate the next.

DC scored more points than Hakkinen in 97(even after having to gift him a win), look how that turned out when they eventually got a championship challenger.

Maybe last year they just had a car that didn't suit Button at all.

It's also ridiculous to compare the testing times of both drivers, who knows what they are testing and with limited milage this year they are likely both working different programs and agenda's.

Have I got to come in here and bang some heads together? :D

Looks like it :D

Not only that but also that the only reason Barrichello had a much larger points total to JB last season was because of one race - Silverstone - well done to RB none the less, but not exactly convincing that he was a much better driver over all the other races

The season is yet to begin and the bickering has already started....

Diffuser row grows ahead of Melbourne

Seems like FIA might be deciding the outcome of the 1st couple of races

And its interesting that Mclaren are being so open about where they will be on the grid before they have even turned a wheel at Melbourne :D

McLaren to be near back of grid

Some might say they need a 700 page dossier to help them out (perhaps someone at BGP can sort that out for them) ;)

I will certainly say that Button and Barrichello are closely matched (based on last year's results, only). However, even if we take away the British GP result of 2008 (-6pts), Barrichello still managed to outscore Button.

The way I see it is that if Button is struggling to beat Barrichello, he can in no way be mentioned in the same breath as Hamilton, Alonso or Massa.

I understand that there is British support here, though I don't see this much support for Hamilton who is also British and IS the man doing the business on the track. He went toe-to-toe against Alonso, who is regarded by many as the best driver in F1 at the moment and he matched him. In contrast Button is struggling against Barrichello.

My gut feeling is that the FIA will let BrawnGP race with its rear diffuser. However, if Ferrari get battered, then the FIA may have to step in to assist prevent Ferrari from getting left behind by the BrawnGP cars.
