F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

LOL! The FIA break their own Sporting Code!

They seem to love waving the Sporting Code about all over the place whenever the team complain, wonder how they will react to it being thrown back at them.

It does make sence though, you cannot expect the FIA to be allowed to change the rules only days before the season opener. Yes, its only a change to scoring and not to things like the construction of the cars, but its still a change of rules.

Even if the FIA do manage to wangle a way to make the rules legal, it will still be a rule that goes against the FOTA recomendations which were formed from the fans suggestions in the survey, and a rule that all F1 teams have unanomously voted against... so if the fans and the teams are against it... just who are the FIA trying to please?

FOTA not happy about new points systems & point out that they are breaking the rules by the changing them this close to the new season...

LOL, I'd love it if the FIA were hoisted by their own petard over this. Not only because the new points system doesn't seem to be the best, but because they did bring it about in a very high-handed manner with, it seems, very little consultation.

Heh, brilliant.

This one could run and run, of course. About the best thing the FIA could do now is surrender with grace (or as close as they can get to grace) and work on pushing through a points system change for 2010.

Unfortunately, we all know this isnt going to happen.

It will run and run, go to court, go to appeal, and end up with a rule change half way through the season completely changing everything and confusing all the fans and annoying all the teams!

Gotta love the FIA :)

If they have any backbone at all they will conceed they were wrong.

The proposed FIA rules are stupid, it would mean that a driver with 10 race wins and 7 crashes/retirements would be handed the championship over someone with 9 race wins and 8 second places?!?

Ferrari International Assistance need to accept that Hamilton won fairly and squarely in 2008 and stop interfering.

I couldnt have put it better myself.

:p

The statement said: "On 17 March, the FIA World Motor Sport Council unanimously rejected FOTA's proposed amendment to the points system for the Formula One Drivers' Championship. The 'winner takes all' proposal made by the commercial rights holder (who had been told that the teams were in favour) was then approved.

The FIA are blaming Bernie for it.

Massive LOL if the 2009 World Championship ends up going to a driver who wouldn't have won it under the winner-takes-all system :D

Edit: again...

Funny how the biggest opposition came from FOTA - the head of whom happens to be none other than the president of Ferrari - Luca di Montezemolo.

Perhaps a little insight into the FIA/FOTA/F1 on your part would not go amiss :D

Montezemolo slams 'absurd' rule changes

I think it would be awesome if the champion didn't actually win a single race - and just happened to come second each race :p

What an embarrassment for them having to backtrack now, trying to make out like they thought all the teams were in favour of it and that's the reason they implemented it.

Oh well, hopefully Brawn will keep updating their car to stay ahead of the pack. :)
Go Button. :p Also well done FOTA they have done everyone a favour. :D
