F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Dont know about Nick but i loved F1 long before i started working in it. Watching the races has so much more meaning when you know that the nose they are just about to fit, was in your hands 3 days earlier [if that makes sense].

There is so much more behind the scenes that is far from glamorous but come race day ,none of that matters.

The balance issues that KERS causes would take me ages to explain [and probably break my CA with work] so i wont. KERS is not the miracle performance device some people think it is, yet!

The teams wouldn't be bothering with it at all though if it wasn't going to be of significant benefit to performance, especially as they've spent so much money on it. Even though Williams doesn't have the biggest budget they're working hard on it too.

I've done some work on it and I know that the performance increase it can give is well worth the hassle especially now that the rev limit has been brought down and there's no engine development.

Yep me too, though I started at Renault a month after I finished my degree so I hadn't been following F1 for long relative to most fans before I got involved.. Inevitably I basically eat, sleep and live F1 now - most of my friends work in F1 and so whenever I am out conversation usually ends up somewhere within the sport.

I was lucky enough to join Renault half way through their 2006 championship winning season - but I didn't really do any design work on that car. The past two seasons have been less than ideal, and seeing our car work its way up the improvement ladder in the 2008 season was hugely rewarding because it was the result of our aero improvements hitting the track.

Though for me its not so much the fact that I held a nose in my hands 3 days before it going on the car, more that I designed that nose 6 months earlier ;)

Please accept if this is badly worded - I really mean no offence at all (Im hugely jealous not only because I have an Electronic Engineering degree, and have never got anywhere close to F1)

Do you really design the nose as a unit - I would have guessed you would have input on only one small vital element - lets say an endplate or something (admittedly there would be effectively two identical but mirrored endplates)?

has anyone else ever noticed how bernie looks exactly like mr majieka ? some of you must be old enough to remember majeika but for those who cant i made a pic.

it could be the same person! maybe it is? did bernie used to be an actor on childrends TV :D

Nickthenorse you may well know my Dad, hes been quite heavily involved with the KERS stuff at Renault. He doesnt work for Renault, the company he works for has been providing the equipment to test it.
:)

Don't think there is one :(

On Friday there was something on the red button menu on the beeb on the sports multiscreen. It doesn't appear to be there today but it was a 30-40 min show with a review of last season, short interview with hamilton, a few interviews with the new team and footage of some of the best races through F1 history selected by Murray. I guess it may pop up again through this week?

We've told you to stop harassing him! Its borderline forum dating!

1 week! yeyeyeyeyeeeeerrrrrrrr
Now where would be the fun in that? :D

*does a silly dance in honour of there now being less than 7 days to go!*

It seems years since the 2008 ended. The winter break it far too long. The season should be longer with more races, 20 in total will do :D

I know they probubly do boring jobs most of the time, but to be honest, I wouldnt mind doing a boring job if it was in a field I enjoyed or had something to do with something I was interested in.

We wish! :D

I'm looking forward to seeing some excitement this year without having to rely on knip's rain dance from last year :D
(although I certainly have no problem with a few wet races - should be great fun!)

Wet races are a must. There were quite a few last year.
