F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

1) The planks are no longer wood. They're made from a carbon fibre that is designed to wear.

2) The planks when fitted are 10mm thick - at the end of the race if they are found to be less than 9mm think, the car is disqualified.

3) The plank has several titanium fixings and wear plates in it - you tend to see sparks from them occasionally.

4) The best place to see where the plank has rubbed on the ground is the back straight at Brazil. It's a crappy surface on the place and you can see pale stripes across the track at the end of the straight - thats where the car has bottomed out.

There were sparks in Singapore last year if I remember correctly?

Yeah, but those were caused by Massa's fuel hose dragging on the pitlane :D

LMAO! First time i've acutally laughed at this forum in a while.

FIA/Ferrari is well beyond being funny, as is "for sure"

I'm watching the 1993 season review on VHS! Amazing what you find at the bottom of the cupboard. Needed an F1 fix.

Wasn't '93's official review one that Jonathan Ross did the voiceover for?

i think so because he was doing donington when Senna Raced into the lead on lap 1... (on youtube somewhere).

I got a few of those Season review tapes, but aint got a VHS that works anymore :(

Apparently Red Bull are going to protest Brawns Diffuser if it passes scruteneering this weekend... So rather than protest the rules and the diffuser on Brawn, Williams and Toyota, they are just going to protest Brawn, who just so happen to be faster than them... Toy, pram, tantrum, anyone?

Stop complaining, if the diffuser passes, get ur camera out and build you own, dont just winge and moan to the FIA to ban the team because they thought of the idea before you!

Only a scum bag would try to blackmail his own team with details of cheating, details he was a part of. Details that would give him immunity.

He didnt blackmail anyone. When he threatened Ron Denis, it was a comment made in the heat of the moment...only a few minutes after Ron Denis and Hamilton had had a slanging match with eachother (immediately after Hungary qualifying, 2007).

Ron Denis then went to have a go at Alonso, to which Alonso replied that he would report the team for cheating.

In a fit of anger, Ron Denis then went and reported his own team to the FIA. Take note of this.

If Ron Denis had remained calm, none of it would've got out in the way that it did. There was a lot of hot headedness that day. Hamilton, Alonso and Denis were all to blame.

It would also have saved macca a 100 million and the information line to ferrari would still be open ;)

;)

lol good one

if you want to see were the rules are bias look at world superbikes
its run by Italians, so ducati have won more championships than any other make and when the others catch up, the rules change and ducati are back at the top winning again.
the Italians even changed the finish line at monza, because the ducati got out draged to the line one year by a jap bike, so the following year they put the finish line closer to the last corner to stop it

You mean like the Renault engine devoplment?

Ducati were winning the Championships with under-powered bikes that also had less cylinders and size than others but they still beat them.

The Monza finishline was actuallly more to do with track length than anything else, as I'm sure they did it at other tracks to.

When talking about rule changes I think you forgot to check that at many points in WSBK history the rules were actually against Ducati not for them, the rules were changed when Ducati were dominent (like MS/Ferrari) to make it a level playing field, then they modified the rules/regulations as the Ducati bikes could not produce the same power being onlly halve the cylinders ;) so they made it a little fairer agian.

You forget to mention the riders on the Ducatis who where dominent in WSBK, Namely Carl Foggarty/Neil Hodgeson/Troy Corser/Troy Bayliss all of which have won races on other bikes. so I don't think WSBK is "Pro-Ducati".

but not to feel like JRS lets get back to F1... :D

Was it done in a fit of anger? I read that he didn't realise the full extent of the usage of data and as soon as it was "brought to his attention" (i.e. alonso threatened him with leaking it) he did the proper thing and informed the FIA - probably decided it was the best course of action and I believe his honesty saved them from being thrown out of the championship altogether.

... I believe his honesty saved them from being thrown out of the championship altogether.

Denis's honestly got his team a US$100M fine, which was more than most people expected.

If you are suggesting that Alonso made the threat/comment when he was very calm and then explained in a calm manner, exactly what went on, in great detail, to Ron Denis, then you are very much mistaken.

1. Hamilton prevented Alonso from starting his qualifying run before him (as agreed beforehand).
2. Hamilton had just sworn at Denis during the qualifying run, after Ron ordered Hamilton to let Alonso through.
3. Alonso responded in kind, to Hamilton's antics by holding the pit stop position, preventing Hamilton from changing tyres and going out for another qualifying run. Both drivers were totally fired up, as Alonso got pole position.
4. Immediately after qualifying, Ron Denis was very animated and fired up. He told Hamilton never to swear at him again and then came looking for Alonso, to confront him about what he did in the pit lane.
5. Alonso and Denis were both fired up and not calm. They exchanged words and this is the point where Alonso mentioned reporting McLaren to the FIA.
6. If memory serves me correctly, Ron Denis then reported his own team, a few hours later, while he was still quite fired up.

None of us know for sure if Denis knew the whole truth about what went on (with the Ferrari data)...only he and his closest know for sure, but you can make up your own mind.

Either way, its an old story now...Hamilton was chosen and Alonso was ditched, after they finished level on points that season. Needless to say that Alonso and Hamilton don't like eachother at all and based on last season, Hamilton has a tendency to lose his cool when Alonso is around him on the track.

Which all in all turns this into a Prost vs Senna style racing. :D Can't think of nothing better. :p
Yep!

I was just thinking how exciting it could be if Alonso and Hamilton have similarly matched cars this year but aren't front runners :D

Them two scrapping over points, whilst Brawn, BMW and Ferrari are fighting for the wins.

Whatever happens I think we are in for a cracking season!

This is actually a probable scenario.

I must admit though, I prefer it when these 2 are fighting/racing for the major/podium places.
