F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

It's a device invented by Ferrari International Assistance designed to make McLaren less competitive.

lol good one

if you want to see were the rules are bias look at world superbikes
its run by Italians, so ducati have won more championships than any other make and when the others catch up, the rules change and ducati are back at the top winning again.
the Italians even changed the finish line at monza, because the ducati got out draged to the line one year by a jap bike, so the following year they put the finish line closer to the last corner to stop it

He's the best that F1 currently has to offer. I wouldn't say he was scum (thats a strong word), but he is certainly selfish in always wanting his own way..

Only a scum bag would try to blackmail his own team with details of cheating, details he was a part of. Details that would give him immunity.

I wouldn't care if he found out and wasn't happy and so reported the team. It's that he was perfectly happy to be a part of it as long as he was winning.

That in my opinion makes him no greater a sportman than Chambers.

As Brundle points out in the article, he really didn't need to do it and if he'd just got on with the job would have likely won the title anyway.

It would also have saved macca a 100 million and the information line to ferrari would still be open ;)

For anyone interested, the BBC took a vote on their F1 blog of which historic 80's or 90's australian GP people would like to see again, and they've posted the full "Grand Prix" recap program (50 odd minutes long) here:

edit: it's 94 and 86 for anyone interested.

i miss the sparks flying up from underneath the cars :( , i know they added the planks for safety reasons but it seems to take away some of the excitment for me

There were sparks in Singapore last year if I remember correctly? I hope they haven't smoothed out the track for this season. The bumps were the only good thing about it :p

Good find. Just watched the '94 race :D

Even though I knew it was going to happen, the moment that Schumi dives across Hill is still heart-wrenching - and some of the duels Mansell was having working his way up front were great to see again too. 94 was the first year I properly got into F1 :D

the cars have a plank of wood attacked to the bottom that has to be a XXX thick at the end of the race so we dont get sparks anymore maybe a puff of wood you wont ever notice and a slight staining of the track.

Just reading James Allen's preview on the ITV site, starting to get pretty excited for the first race. :D
As much as I disliked James' commentary, his columns are usually alright, glad he's still writing them. I like the ITV F1 website, more so than the BBC one, unless they go for a revamp I'll be sticking to the former.

Question: If Button pulls his finger out this year and drives better than Barrichello, how many words will I have to eat?

Um, I'm pretty sure I saw sparks in Singapore too - it didn't occur to me at the time but how did that happen with the wood block?

I'm certain there were sparks in the qualifying. Not to the same extent as that Melbourne race, but they were definitely there.

Isnt the plank held in with Metal bolts, or was that just one of the ways the teams go around the rule? So you could get some sparks, even with the plank...

*edit* Post above agrees with me :D
