F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Maybe touring cars will get even bigger then

Mercedes are in DTM, BMW are in all sorts of touring cars, I cant really see Ferrari comming to touring cars. But there is always the posibility that Renault, Honda and Toyota can make a bigger presence elsewhere. Afterall, Toyota dropped the WRC to do F1, so they may seek other motorpsorts oportunities when they leave F1.

For those of u who are wanting all the 'good old days' of private F1 teams back, it looks like you may get them..... all be it with only 3 or 4 teams, no fans, and no race trakcs able to afford to hold the races...

ALMS Regs <> LMS Regs, which is annoying. All the decent cars go to the USA. There is that Japanese build Ford GT GT2 car, the Aston Martin Vantage GT2 that ran on Biofuel there earlier this year, this new BMW M3 GT2 porn car, and others. Whereas un Europe were stuck with Porsche's and maybe the odd Ferrari if someone bothers.

Is Audis R8 GT2 customer car designed for the ALMS too?

It's a GT3 car, not a GT2 unfortunately. However indications are it may move up to GT2

The Ford GT GT2 is built by Kevin Doran in the USA, we will have 3 or 4 Aston Martin Vantage's running on this side of the pond in 2009, and with regards to Ferrari and Porsche it was the other way round:p

I know we are losing the Team Modena Aston Martin for 2009. They are heading to GT2 in a F430..

It's about time Gt1 and Gt2 merged. I'd like to see a Lambo Gallorado

Back to this F1 thing, I can't see people carrying on with large manufacturers if they can't use their engine. I mean what is the point.

That's what I love and ALMS / LMS

I expect GT1 to be phased out completely by the end of 2010 if not 2009, running a GT1 these days is almost as expensive as a P2 Porsche RS Spyder or LMP1 Zytek.

Unless Bernie can put together a very good plan for this year, we may see a another team go.
.

Bernie and co really need to start giving more to keep the show afloat during these rough times.

tracks shouldn't need to pay 100s of millions to get rights. Canada and America need to be back on the list ASAP. As does Silverstone, Donnington is going to be a farce far greater than those flooded years at Silverstone (i went those years and it wasn't THAT bad).

Cheaper track contracts = cheaper tickets = more fans AT the track.

Customer cars shouldn't be outlawed, it makes no sense what so ever, why "throw away" old designs, sell them to STR, williams and force India etc. What is wrong with that? it makes it cheaper for them to be in F1.

Also, all this cost cutting rubbish the last 2 years. Well this year is a bit different isn't it? almost every single part on every car is going to have to change due to these new rules. How is that cost saving?

Eeek didn't realise it was that expensive and I'd rather run the RS Spyder which is a fantastic looking car...

Wonder how Porsche will fair in this tuff economic times
