F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Which operation - the F1 Team or the car factory in Swindon which has already been confirmed as closing from Feb - March 09 ?

I rang him shortly after that post and he said that Plant 1 at Swindon is closing for good, they're asking for voluntary redundancies, and unless the F1 team finds a buyer in the next four weeks then it's gone for good. The company have been hit seriously hard and can't continue to pump money into the F1 team. And yes, they're also closing for 2 months. Is this the end of formula one as we know it..

I cannot see Toyota sticking around for much longer either. The writing is aon the wall for lots of teams. Ther sponorship just isn't there except for one or two teams the rest are just about treading water.

Compare the once great Williams budget to Mclarens.

Unless they can come up with a decent way to give the poorer teams a chance to actually win a race, thus helping them make money from sponsorship then F1 isn't going to last for too much longer.

The mclaren ferrari stranglehold on the sport is so strong that it's not even remotely interesting for anyone to think about investing in an f1 team.

Give them a 50 million budget (as an example)including the drivers wages and maybe have a sport that isn't about two cars in two teams. Two number 1's and two back rear gunners.

There needs to be a budget limit to make the sport attractive to think about competeing.

Interesting to see what Brawn does now.

Hmmm this sucks :(

We've got a few guys coming from Honda but that was arranged months ago. There must be a mad panick of people sending out CVs tonight.

I dont see renault hanging about for much longer either. They almost pulled out when they were winning. Now they aren't and with the current state of car sales I don't see the top man pumping money in for long.

The article says williams are in trouble too. (bbc)

I will actually be quite glad to see F1 impode on itself, for too long the big teams have been so self absorbed and interested in themselves rather than looking after the future of the sport.

The levels of money and personal is frankly sickening to run two cars. Honda have what 800 employees? Mclaren over a thousand.

I think (and am prepared to be corrected) that if there are fewer than 8 teams on the grid, then some teams are required to run 3 cars to bring the number of cars on the grid up to at least 16.

How can they start to talk about 3 car teams? Won't that just push up costs, which they have been going against?

Looks like Barrichellos career is over then...

and buttons
as there isnt anywhere else to go next season

also even if they do get a buyer, who`s to say there are going get any help off honda with the car, i bet it will be a load of crap like the past few seasons
and just an update of this years car.
if they thought they had a good car for 09 they wouldnt be selling

Scrap F1. Allow Bernie to retire gracefully. Use what has been learned from F1's failures to promote a new Touring Car series with sensible track pricing, a cap on development spend and guaranteed, free, quality TV coverage.

RESULT!

To think Alonso was linked to Honda earlier in the season

Sad. Hope Jenson gets a good seat & proves himself
