F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Yeah, my gut feeling tells me that Toyota will hang in there for another year, otherwise, they would already have made an announcement.

At any rate, what they need to do is reduce their spending, as their record breaking budgets over the last few years have yielded very poor results.

I hope Toyota stay in, it depends on how they see their sales going over the next year. If Toyota are in for a long slump they will be off, but if it is a blip then they are one of the teams who can benefit from the cost cutting and changed rules!

Sales are only down 4% on the same period last year IIRC, it's the strong yen which is giving them a battering.

You quoting somewhere?

Won't happen.

Buemi is Red Bull's golden-boy so that's one seat already taken. Which leaves either Sato (good for marketing in Japan) or Bourdais (experience).

No, im speculating.

Buemi has proved hes fast in testing so I agree, hes in. I cant see Bourdais going anywhere other than back to the USA, hes simply not good enough for F1. And if Honda dont find a buyer id rather take Button to Sato any day.

Surely this is obvious, drivers wouldn't want a pay cut? Personally, I think capping it at around £5 - 10 million would be more than adequate. I do think they should be paid well as they are a brand in there own right and are literally slaves/drones to the team they drive for.

Lewis for instance appears to have a great lifestyle, but I bet he gets almost no free time to himself.

Yeah, i mean we should definately cap F1 drivers pay, I mean, look at footballers, what they do is way more dangerous and they get paid loads more for it. Cap them at £1m I say, I mean how hard can driving a car at up to 200mph for 2 hour races be compared to the highly dangerous task of running about for an hour or so and they going to the pub.

After Jenson being at Honda for several seasons marketing would take care of itself, his added performance and team know how is far more valuable to a team than either of the other two

Sato has always been a liability

capping salaries - I guess it needs to be done, Im just wondering how it can work and how effective. Kimi's on what £20m-£25m or so, suddenly down to 20% of that, with no "off the book" payments and he is just meant to accept it hmmmmm we will see (or rather wont see lol)
