F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Honda buyout speculation is getting annoying. They're now saying Nick Fry is lookign to go it alone with a bit of Honda help. I really want the team to thrive and Button to get a decent drive but it's looking unlikely.

Where will he get the capital from? I was under the impression Honda were washing their hands clean of F1, not just downsizing their involvement?

Rumoured decent honda chassis? Have they run it yet? It wouldn't be the first time they have rumoured a good chassis to find they have gotten the figures all wrong.

They will spread all kinds of bull on how good a car they have designed for this year in the hope they can get a team together for 09.

1 race into the season they will start talking about building for 2010.

Its the first chassis Brawn has any control over - so there is no reason not to believe it will be good, and several to believe it will be!!!

Honda decision still ongoing, and STR driver lineup decisions still not decided. Surely I cant be the only one to suggest that they are linked. If Honda go bust thats 2 experienced drivers lookig for a seat. If I was STR, id be holding off signing anybody for the moment.

Good call - I have been pondering the same for the last few weeks

Brawn is one man, the days of thriving with one decent man is long gone in F1 design. Just look at newey, he hasn't done squat since two decent mclarens in 98/99.

Brawn still has the same guys underneath him.

He was so good at ferrari because they had a huge team of excellent designers. Its not like brawn has drawn the whole car himself.

The honda will still bottom feed. I hope not, I really do.

The whole thing rings of the prost saga when they where all but dead, suddenly the stories flowed of a mega car and ultra fast test laps. About 25 kilo's underweight :D

Brawn can't turn it around on his own, Honda's recent design history adds more weight to the car sucking that the other way around.

Brawn also spent the best part of last year lieing about upcoming parts and developements, then to all of a sudden be concentrating on 09.

Odds are that if Honda do produce a car for 2009, it will be very very slow and in relation to everybody else's cars, will be even worse than the 2007 and 2008 cars.

This is not only down to the fact that Honda have a bad history (collectively, as a team, they churn out bad cars and seem unable to develop the car as the season progresses), but also, their development has been severely disrupted by the 'Honda pulling out of F1' shenanigans.

Wasn't the problem with the 07 and 08 cars that Honda decided to hand design duties over from the brits (who let's face it, pretty much have the technical side of F1 sewn up) to one of their home-grown motorcycle designer who admitted he didn't really know much about aerodynamics (and especially downforce).

It's sad whe nthe adverts are just as big as the damned pictures. Can't make out any details. The biggest difference is the skinny rear end.

Yup, i like it :) Looks new and interesting. Cant wait to see them line up in Aus!!

I noticed what looks like some aero bits on the side, I thought these extra bits were banned in the new rules?

RE: Honda, cant be bothered with it any more. Until they have a buyer or they fold, and its all confirmed I am ignoring all other speculation with them. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Here are some bigger, better pictures of the new Ferrari. Overall I think it looks ok tbh, it certainly looks a lot better than the interim BMW that was tested before. The rear wing still looks a bit odd, but apart from that it looks fine, looks very smooth also.

Check out some of the other sites, even official F1 site.
I think it looks great from the front view, looks quite aggresive with the wide wing. :)
Not so sure on the angled front/side view but from every other angle I think it looks alright. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the cars.

I spy with my little eye, Aero designers already 'bending' the rules :)

By mounting the wing mirrors on tall stands that are fixed to the floor of the car, they have an area they can use as a small deflector to shape the air along the side of the car, somwhere where these things have been banned. As always I was expecting there to be Aero rule 'bending' at some point, but this is right at the start, first car unvailed :)

As long as they can proove the primary use of these 'winglets' is to hold the wing mirrors up, theres probubly little the FIA can do. Cant wai to see what other teams do to 'tweak' the rules :)

Was expected. They're rather elaborate for mirror supports though. Whats wrong with a carbon fibre stick like thye used to have? ;)

I'm trying to ignore the front view - it hurts....

Top view isn't too bad. Shows the little bargeboards and just how tight the rear end is.

I've quickly knocked up some comparisons of this to last years car - they're not great as I haven't had any coffee yet..... Brain no worky when caffine without.
