F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Think someone mentioned that the FOM does not transmit in HD yet, which is where all TV's source their F1 feeds from.

This chanel was only around for a couple of years. They sold all the timing software and graphics to ITV. The Camera mode stuff was cool, but it failed because of crap commentary and the fact nobody watched it for any more than 18 weekends a year!

And for the last time....

F1 IS NOT FILMED IN HD! THEREFORE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR IT TO BE BROADCAST IN HD BY ANYONE!

And one final thing that I only just noticed... When and why have they maved the Japanese GP back to Suzuka? I thought Fuji held a contract for many years? Good choice though, I love Suzuka!

Alternating between them now I think :)

never been to the site before so dont know of its reliability - but it looks like there is a chance of Aussies getting F1 in HD as a one off from 2009 season

(maybe this has already been dismissed or its a completely false rumour, but I would be surprised if Bernie wasnt at least interested now in making even more money from an HD channel now its more widely available - it was wayyyyyy too early a few years ago)

I was chatting to an American last night, and apparently Nascar is a bit of a joke over there. Its only followed in certain southern states, and most people think its boring :D
He reckons there is a real "gap in the market" for a decent F1 following over there.

Let me guess, this American wasn't from south of the Mason-Dixon line? ;)

NASCAR is still the most popular motorsport in America. And no amount of bleating by the North and protestations about how it's just a bunch of redneck Southern moonshiners driving around in tank-like stock cars that haven't seen any development since 1965 will change that. As far as any sport goes, NASCAR is the second most popular sport on TV behind American Football. Of the top 20 attended sporting events in the US every year, NASCAR holds 17 of them. It's the second richest motorsport after Formula One. Oh, and a driver from a Southern state hasn't won the Cup championship since 2004. I think it's fairly safe to assume that NASCAR does have some popularity up in the North if it's going to produce championship-winning drivers and viewing/attending figures the way it does!

***edit***

Viewing figures for the Truck race at Daytona this year. Not too shabby for a Friday night, and you can bet that the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races got many more than that.

That's my last word on it in this thread anyway. If you want to continue this one, I'll be posting a thread for the Fontana race this weekend.
