F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

I think it would be a great move if Virgin/Branson succeeds in buying Honda F1 from the financial aspect we know Branson as got the funds to support the team. The £40 Million needed for the season is nothing to them, but the revenue/marketing it'll generate will be worth the investment.

For Branson though a Virgin Racing Team must be extremely attractive to him considering he already has Planes and Trains, he only needs Automobiles to complete his billionares playset!:D

From what i have been told it is more a case of the current Honda management asking Branson if he would be interested rather than the other way around. Hope i am wrong though, just want to see " whatever the new team is called" on the track.

Quick question, when does the season start (i've completely forgot) and will it be avaliable on bbc hd?

From what I've read, It won't be in HD to start with as the stream the BBC use is broadcast accross the whole of Europe and is currently only SD. It's down to the broadcasters in each country to lobby for an HD Feed.

The BBC has the complete monopoly on F1 coverage for the next 5 years and the digital rights so they'll be Interactive, Web (iPlayer) and Mobile services.

Bit odd for Virgin to be interested though.

He's got no (publicised) interest in motorsport, so you'd think the primary reason for him to get involved would be to make a profit. With most of the teams barely breaking even, a back marking team like Honda are not going to be raking it in - especially without any sponsors.

If this does indeed happen I can foresee another Spyker/Alex Sneijder/Vijay Mallya* scenario with the team being bankrolled until the shareholders get ****ed off and pull the plug.

*I know, I know - but it's just a matter of time

Back in the day when tobacco sponsorship was prevalent but noises were being made about reducing it, Branson talked about possibly coming in as a title sponsor if budgets were reducing.

its Branson we are talking about here if he dosnt think he'll make money out of it some way either directly or indirectly then he wont do it.
but he's got to be tempted after seeing the progress and i'd say success that redbull have made out of it.
but if he does go for it then i hope he sticks around long enough and dosnt give it a half assed effort, because i highly doubt that honda will go very far this year at least, i would imagine it'll take time for them to catch up to the pack with the lack of testing and such.

would be intersting to see the car liveries, and virgin would bring some spice to the F1 paddock much like redbull have.

I read somewhere that Branson has known the original owners of the BAR team (when JV was first recruited) for quite some time

I hope JB does get the seat to prove quite a few people wrong around here

Not F1 related per se but might be of interest for some of you:

Silverstone reveals new MotoGP layout

So normal GP circuit to Abbey then the wrong way down the International Circuit back up to where it joins the National Circuit then along that back to where it joins the GP track again.

i think that would make a good f1 track... although loosing bridge corner? hmm maybe not.
