Bernie today said he couldn't afford the loss of a GP as he is obviously skint , so has an alternative ;)

There is a BIG financial problem with losing a GP off the calender. Not only for Bernie's F1 company, but also for Bahrain. Remember, Bahrain spent a lot of money getting this track ready, so that it can host F1 GPs, so I think it is very likely that we shall see Bahrain later on this year.

No doubt, Bernie has been paid handsomely to give the Bahrain GP the opening slot to the GP calender. The King/Sheikh/Prince (or whoever bank rolled the creation of the track) will definitely want a Bahrain GP to take place this year.

As someone said about about, if the final 2 GPs of the year are Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, we really in for a snoozefest as the season closes.

It would be nice if as suggested Pirrelli make a tyre that has a decent degradation rate so different driving styles can be accomodated against the cost of additional pit stops. Canada last year was a great GP for the unexpected wear it produced. I know tyre manufacturers can make tyres that will last the whole race with relatively uniform performance because Bridgestone have done it. But it doesn't make for good racing a lot of the time.

Interview with Brundle and Coulthard ahead of the new season - http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2011/02/22/coulthard-brundle/

Worrying that the experts reckon opening the rear wing will give in effect the same as an extra 70-80hp. That will be almost impossible to defend against surely.

That's going to be a complicated juggling match at each circuit to try to get some sort of balance, how long for etc.

What a complete **** up that will turn out to be.

Somebody asked that on the BBC live text for one of the practice sessions. IIRC the answer was same tyre allocations as last year.

They said they'd look into it and perhaps increase the allocation if required.

The main problem is the 2 days of practice where teams would have to limited running to make sure they have fresh tyres for the race. Which would mean far less practice than last year if using the same allocation for a race weekend with tyres of high degradation.

I am properly confused about the FIA's view on practice.

They said they wanted to increase the number of people going to circuits on fridays, so increased P1 and P2 to 1.5 hours and made ticket prices cheap, but then in the same breath reduced the number of tyres available to teams meaning they didn't bother to do much running on Friday...

It makes no sense. I know they are trying to appear more 'green' by using less tyres, but surely a couple more sets per car isn't going to kill the planet, and it would make Fridays more interesting.

They just want to get money from the gullible fans, they don't care if the teams have no running on a Friday.
"Less practise = more exciting racing"

Sure I remember that being said a good while back.
