F1 2012 Car launch dates

They have a 7.5cm height gap, which they have just 15cm to blend it into.

Only if they stick to the max height regulation on the front of the tub. They could drop the height of the tub to produce a smooth curve.

But with the emphasis more on air under the nose than over it, its doubtfully anyone will.

Cheers Sparky.

So I assume these are things that have to be in that position to meet side impact testing, but the Ferrari looks to have removed them from being built into the sidepod and instead isolated them on their own while moving the openings from the sidepods back?

I assume there are strict regulations around where they need to be on the car?

Might explain why the first chassis Ferrari submitted to the FIA failed the crash tests, as they are exploring new areas here.

For me, the 1992 and 1993 Williams cars looked the best.
Not only did this look fantastic, but they were the fastest cars, by a considerable margin, in their time.

Form and function.
Williams FW14B and Williams FW15c had them both.

McLaren are ready for a a legality fight over the MP4-27

According to McLaren Applied Technologies managing director Geoff McGrath, the new car, which is launched tomorrow, will feature obvious design innovations which could potentially attract protests from rivals.

"There are technical innovations on the car which will be immediately obvious when you see them," said McGrath, who added that McLaren is "getting ready for a fight" over its new machine.

It is understood that McLaren is focusing on single-lap speed with the MP4-27, which it hopes will allow it to take more pole positions and control races from the front.
Now that sounds excellent. Glad to hear of someone else pushing the boundaries a bit. Shame for Renault having their trick ride system banned as it sounded like it was a good idea.

Thanks for the link.

What interested me most was the following quote, from the McLaren employee:

"He must be a brilliant driver, because by the end of last season we definitely had the best car and he was still whupping us," McGrath said.

"We're trying to figure out exactly what he's doing that's so good. How does he pull out that fast qualifying lap every time? We think it's driver skill. There's no trickery on the cars, he just gets more out of it than we do."

To me, it basically sounds like he is saying Vettel is some sort of qualifying master. He is saying that McLaren finished the season with the best car on the grid, yet Vettel was getting the poles/wins. I think McLaren must hold Vettel in very high regard.

I think the difference between Mark and Seb showed that the skill was in the driver and not the car. The guy just has an epic ability to switch it up to 11 when needed.

Cannot wait for the McLaren now! I hope its something outrageous, like guns, or force fields, or wrap around bumpers to stop Lewis punting people off :D

I know it's the same for any new car, but it's more unneverving hearing this from McLaren :p

"Until we go to the first test in Jerez [which starts on February 7], the engineers won't know for sure if they got it right."
