F1 2013 Testing: Week 1 Jerez

Merc. still aren't sure they will get out again today, could be another early end.

Unless the next 2 days are problem free, this is about as catastrophic as a first test can get, perhaps even trumping Mclaren in (?) 2011. At least the car has showed some pace.

I'd say the worst debut was Ferrari last year. The drivers could barely keep it on the road, let alone wring a decent time out of it.

This is obviously aside from fresh teams turning up and having no running time or being way off the pace, eg. Coloni Subaru.

The Sauber does look very nice, I still think the Mclaren is the best looking of all though. Caterham probably have the worst livery this season, imo.

Merc now out for the rest of the day while they fix hydraulics.

Not a good start at all :(

Lets hope from now on the car is problem free.

A shame for Mercedes. Hopefully both drivers will get a full day each tomorrow and Friday.

They sure are racking up the laps out there. Some great issue free days for a lot of the teams.

BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson in Jerez

"I've been out on the track watching the cars and the Lotus continues to look very impressive. The front end is always there, the traction is good and Romain Grosjean is able to be committed on the throttle. Sergio Perez was on a long run in the McLaren and he was very consistent. It also looks pretty good. The Toro Rosso has lost its edge from yesterday - now the rear is moving too much, which was always their problem last year. Red Bull I believe are concentrating on reliability before some upgrades but at the moment it looks like a one-line car - if the driver misses the turn-in, it's hard to get the nose back on line. The Ferrari looks OK, but its tyres are going off more quickly than some others - and it's not always riding the bumps as well as the best."

What's that website posted earlier in this thread with all the laps, stints etc, in a nice table. I did have a look but can't see it. I must be blind.

Wow, so after two days of testing we can already tell Lotus are going to win the championship. My money is on Kimi rather than Grosjean to take the driver's title. Lewis may as well just sit out the rest of the season; how ironic that he left McLaren over reliability and he's now racing for this year's least reliable car! I imagine McLaren will probably take second place, with Ferrari and Red Bull squabbling over third. I love how much you can tell from these early tests.

Joking aside, a Kimi/Vettel/Alonso battle for the championship would be epic.
