F1 2013 Testing: Week 1 Jerez

Ta both!

It's starting to look like more than just speculation that Hamilton's made a bad call going to Mercedes.

If I wish to make further wild eye'd predictions I'm going to go for McLaren vs. Lotus with Red Bull and Ferrari jabbing away also as the story for the season. Already I think you can see that there is only about a second seperating the top 7 teams or so. Be interesting to see what Red Bull bring to the final test though, they always hold something back. Not to mention what Fernando has got up his sleeve.

Did you just base your Mercedes season predictions on a brake failure on day 2 of testing? With your second point, we'll be lucky to get any idea of the pecking order even by the end of the 3rd test but I'm surprised you can rule out Redbull from being right up there.

I did say'wild eye'd'

The Red Bull thing is just a gut feeling, more of a hope really.

Usual testing speculation, everyone is guilty of it.

I do laugh at the recurring accusation that Hamiltons move was a mistake. A 3 year plan being written off as a mistake after 15 laps and a brake failure

As with Nico yesterday, the car showed immediate pace, before breaking. The signs are positive, much more so than they have been for Merc for the last 3 years.

To his credit he gets in and spanks it

In all honesty, the move was being declared a mistake by all and sundry (myself included) long before the '15 laps and a brake failure'....

Theres a difference between saying "Its going to be a mistake" and saying "see, I told you it was a mistake". The far to early for the latter.

Hamilton could have stayed at McLaren and spent all of yesterday sitting around while they fixed yet another fuel pump problem.

I hope someone saves all these posts just Incase Mercedes finish ahead of mclaren or even win the first race.

Are merc done or are they fixing the car?

Even though its just pre season testing and these times are not very representitive of the real order of things its encouraging to see Lewis putting in comparible times with everyone else despite the very limited running he has had in a new car/team/working environment, as skeeter mentioned it seems that the merc does have some decent pace under it, i just hope reliability can be ironed out as so far its not looking promising on that front.
However, i'd rather they have issues in testing so they can work out gremlins before they hit the first race, granted it would be even more ideal if they had no issues at all, but hey thats what testing it for afterall

It's also good the be set a faster time than Rosberg on his first day while nico has been used to the team/car for 3 years.

Merc tweets just now...

@MercedesAMGF1: Update from Jerez... we have traced the problem to the hydraulic brake line connecting to the right-rear caliper

@MercedesAMGF1: The impact with the barrier also damaged the front left corner (suspension and associated aero parts)...

@MercedesAMGF1: No news yet as to when we will be back out on track

Track has had a lot more running so will be faster anyway and they probably learned something from nicos short run to improve the setup slightly.

no driver comparisons can be anything other than deceptive until both drivers are running in the same qualifying session
