To be honest, part of me hopes that does happen to teach him a lesson about getting a good sports management team behind you.
Is this a joke, Alonso I'm pretty sure said Hamilton was the best driver on the grid last year, he WAS the best driver on the grid last year, Whitmarsh said his drive with a broken suspension was the best won point EVER at Mclaren, when most drivers would either have simply given up, or not been nearly as fast with such a damaged car.
Hamilton had a great season, with a car that failed him frequently. Without the pitstop failures and car failures, he was well in there for the title fight. So what management team does he need around him, will they fix the car better for him or make less mistakes in pit stops?
Hamilton could have a truly fantastic year driving this year, and come 5th in the title race, or he could have a bad year driving, and win the thing. If Merc have the single best car on the grid, he could screw up several races with mistakes of his own and still win the title, or he could have the 5th best car, vastly out perform it and use superior driving skill to get the car well above where it deserves to be in every race.
Yeah, its great to have a car capable of winning the title, set that as your target, and go and win it, but 23 drivers don't win it every year, they still race, they still have targets, and they can still beat them every race.
AS for getting anything from preseason testing, with essentially no data, and pure guesswork and writing off or talking up any team... lol. Wasn't the lotus fastest at this stage last year, how did that work out?
Hamilton would love a car capable of winning the title, but he's a racer, if he's got the fastest car and comes first, the 5th fastest car and comes 4th, the 10th fastest car and comes 8th, its all beating your target, just a different target.
Better drivers in the lower teams is better for the sport IMHO. Best drivers in the two fastest cars, who race off into the distance and everyone else is crap... is boring.
