F1 2013 Testing: Week 2 Barcelona

sky says Hamilton did a similar time to Vettel/Sergio on the softs, and someone else said he's since gone within 1/10th of his best time, but everywhere just listing his hard tyre fast lap time, not really sure whats going on there, listed around the red flag so maybe they have the time but it didn't get officialised due to red flag, its not at all clear.

From the wonder that is Andrew Benson

Perez and Vettel set their times on the 'soft' tyres, which are fast over one lap but 'go off' quickly.

Raikkonen's time, which was 0.849secs off the pace, was on mediums, which are said by tyre supplier Pirelli to be about 0.8secs slower than the 'softs'.

Hamilton, 0.029secs slower than Raikkonen, set his fastest time on the 'hard' tyre, while Alonso was on the 'medium' tyre. The Spaniard was 1.399secs off Perez's pace.

Fuel loads notwithstanding, the times all look failry close when considering the tyres used.

What the ... I just opened the BBC F1 website about 15 minutes ago... main story was a picture of Vettel's RB9 and a caption saying Vettel Sets Fastest time on Second Day...

Just went on it and again and it's been replaced with Perez. LOL.

how much slower are the hards than the softs?

looks like all tyres equal hamilton blitzed the quickest time since his hard time was the same as a medium, fuel loads aside.

0.8 Seconds according to Pirelli

In Jerez though there wasn't really much between the tyres it all depended on the car and whether it suffered understeer, or oversteer.

So an understeering car such as the Ferrari would be would work better on the hards than the softs.

It's actually looking pretty good for Mercedes. It looks like the gap might have closed between them and the big three - which would be good news for Lewis.

I don't see why they wouldn't have closed the gap. Given that the regs haven't changed much at all it makes sense that a team like Mercedes would close the gap, I doubt they'll have the deliverance of Mclaren, Red Bull or Ferrari though.
