F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Alonso will announce tomorrow that hes officially leaving ferrari. He has a 2+1 year deal with Honda (not mclaren) which is worth 30million euros a year.

Mclaren signed him as soon as the 40 m euro offer to hamilton was declined.

Lewis has verbally agreed to extend merc contract.

What happened to the contract with Mclaren you said he had signed weeks ago?

So smr's persistent posting of 'facts' over the last month has actually just been retyping tweeted rumour, slightly changing the wording, and omitting the source?

I gave you the pitlanetalk source over a week ago. The reason i dont paste the tweet is because im sometimes on my phone.

It irked people because you had regurgitated these tweets as facts and your posts made yourself look to be in the know, when in fact these were the same rumours available in the public domain to everyone. No matter how accurate they may be.

Nothing wrong with sharing of course, people just appreciate it when you also include the source. Had it actually been a 1st hand bit of information from someone in the paddock, then of course that's different.

There has since been a little reaction from one of the established F1 journo's:

But then again any decent journalist will always be conservative in what they post in order to maintain credibility.

Exactly, with the user base of this forum there are going to be many people, myself included, who know things but can't post about things. Any insider knowledge that can be posted I hope would be shared but posting something definitively based upon a journo's tweets is a different matter.

Posting rumour for discussion is what this thread is for.

Posting it as fact and omitting the source to try and get some sort of one up on the rest of us is a bit, pathetic. Smr tried to ban us all speculating anything other than a McLaren move for Alonso a couple of weeks back because he had "confirmed" a contract had been signed.

Alonso needs world titles, and he's now one of the older drivers. I dont see how he can afford to spend a year out on the assumption there will be an Merc. seat in 2016 and also assume they will still be competitive by then.

For all we know, however unlikely, the Honda unit will be the one to have next year and Mclaren might actually bother to design a decent car to boot :p

I reckon he will end up in the McLaren for next year, unfortunately for him though he's lost his bartering chips now that Vettel has announced he's leaving RB so he can't get himself a short or easily escaped contract.

Yep, I think that left him in a less than favourable position. He has probably been backed into the "possibility" of a year out, rather than it being originally one of his considered options.

Haven't Mclaren, Williams, Lotus, Mercedes and Ferrari all confirmed they are at least interested in Alonso (for next year or the year after)? The chances of him not getting a seat anywhere are very slim.
