F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Massa isn't very good though. Even before his injury.

He has been very disappointing this season, I thought he may well flourish in a new environment but doesn't seem to be the case, it really does seem his best racing is well behind him.

I meant it would be more horrible the way things would work out for him... Gets kicked from Ferrari goes to Williams who produce a good car, gets kicked from there because Alonso wants in... What could happen next for him, finds himself in the McLaren (somehow) and it turns out the Honda is a beast, Alonso wants in there for 2016? :p :D

Williams really need to think long and hard about Massa. I know he brings money, but he brings nothing else, if he had driven a little better in some of the races they could be fighting Red-Bull for second in the constructors!

Grosjean or Alonso would bring money with them as long as talent if they replaced Massa.

This thread is crazy...
* Williams can't afford Alonso
* Why would Merc switch out Ham for Alonso?
* Williams are having a good season, but the previous 'x' years have been terrible. Alonso wouldn't go there anyways

Contracts seem to be worth less than the paper they're written on in F1. Nothing against Massa but he is a waste of a top drive at current form. Williams would be challenging RB for #2 in constructors if he wasn't such a liability.

They would still have to pay Massa, on top of paying Alonso's no doubt not inconsiderable salary. Williams are a privateer team; they do not have the cash for this.

I'd still love for there to be an announcement that Fernando has patched it up with Ferrari and will see out the last year of his contract. The look on Vettel's face would be priceless. :D

Yea that's certainly true.

Yea, I think what makes it even more telling is that there are drivers really struggling to get into F1, there are drivers in F1 who may be without a seat next year and there are drivers who could really do with trying to move up the grid in F1 many of whom I'd rather see be given a chance than to have someone like Massa see out the twilight of his career.

Suppose there is a big question mark about whether Williams can continue this good run of form.

If Williams have indeed signed massa for money you have to worry about their ability to ever get the crown.
Could easily do a Lotus
Massa is undeserving of that seat imo. He's done. Could be worse.. Could easily be Maldonado in that seat (is Maldonados decision the worst In history?
From 2nd team to 4th from bottom?

I have found it odd, how Merc have said they are waiting till the end of the season till they do contracts with Hamilton.
Although it probably is as easy as Ham saying more money, I'm the better driver and hinges on him getting the championship.
I don't think we will get a grid line up anytime soon.

I bet merc are gutted they extended Rosberg contract. He clearly isn't in the same class as ham/Alonso.

Hamilton for Alonso? I actually think I'd keep Hamilton. Simply as they know he can deliver. Nico on the other hand.. Yes I'd drop him. He's not bad, but then it might just be the dominance of merc flattering his short comings

Williams have always been a relatively 'small' team. Even in their glory days in the 80s and early-90s their budget was supposedly way behind that of the likes of Ferrari and McLaren.

I did worry about them in their recent downward spiral, but thankfully a restructure seems to have stabilised the team - I don't expect them to stay near the top, and can only see them getting engulfed by the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari next year, but hopefully they're on a solid platform on which to build now.

As for Massa, he's been a decent, sometimes brilliant driver when the car is strong. Things didn't go his way in 2007, in 2008 he nearly won, but before and after he's been average. The problem he's got is the same one as Nico has had this year - he struggles to cope when the pressure ramps up - in a different way to Nico, but with a similar outcome. When things get feisty, he lets his heart rule his head - there were a few incidents in 2008 which clearly showed that (Fuji and Singapore come to mind). Oddly, when you'd imagine the pressure is at its height (Interlagos) he generally excels, and he was in a class of one even in that title decider.

Everyone in the paddock seems to love him, so he's clearly a great guy, but you knew at the time he wasn't going to get another shot at the title. 2008 was his one and only chance and even though I'm not a Massa fan it was heart wrenching the way that day panned out.

I'd drop Nico too. He's got the ability to drive the car quick, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't have the mindset. He's resorted to dirty tactics several times and has buckled several times too when his position was under threat. Ham has been reasonably faultless in that regard, except that time during qualifying at the British GP.

In one sense they probably know Rosberg's a very strong support driver, where all things being equal he'll finish behind Hamilton, but close enough to finish the place behind and get strong points himself for the constructors.

In another sense he'd been very good up until Spa. A few small mistakes which didn't cost him any points. Hamilton was making a few key mistakes (Silverstone, Austria (which only cost him 7 points in total to be fair)) and while Hamilton was firmly ahead in terms of points:finishes, Rosberg had been very solid. When the season started getting spicy the pressure started getting to him and we had incidents such as Spa and Sochi. It probably didn't cost Rosberg anything (he might well have finished 2nd to Hamilton in both anyway), but they were telling mistakes.
