F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I have found it odd, how Merc have said they are waiting till the end of the season till they do contracts with Hamilton.
Although it probably is as easy as Ham saying more money, I'm the better driver and hinges on him getting the championship.
I don't think we will get a grid line up anytime soon.

I bet merc are gutted they extended Rosberg contract. He clearly isn't in the same class as ham/Alonso.

Aren't Merc wanting to cut Hamiltons wages? Even if they have no intention of losing him Alonso is a big bargaining chip for them to use. Even if they could shed Rosberg it's impossible to pair Hamilton and Alonso. Hamilton is only ever happy when it's all his way and to a large degree Alonso is the same.

Hamilton was all doom and gloom until it started to go wrong for Rosberg. Now he's all smiles handshakes and best mates again. The only way for them to work together would be if one was a no 2 or run like two completely seperate 1 car teams.

I'd love it to happen but can't see it ever happening again.

Hamilton signed a three year deal. This is the second year so Mercedes are in no rush and rightly so. Hamilton will likely re-sign unless Mercedes royally screw up next year's car but I can't see that happening. He may want to do nothing until the summer break so he has an idea of Honda's potential as well.

Its kind of funny that any true F1 fan would genuinely believe that the best driver in F1 will be without a driver in 2015. I mean seriously guys, when was the last time this happened?

In 1991, Prost took a sabbatical, though I would argue that by that stage Senna was classed as No.1. Even if we assume Prost was No.1, we have to go back 24 years!

When Merc returned to F1, they wanted to be the best, They hired a huge number of staff. They hired MSc hoping he'd be something like his best (but he wasnt). They got Hamilton and the rest is history.

McLaren/Honda now want to do the same, but they need a top line driver, so the choice is Vettel (will be at Ferrari), Hamilton (is currently winning races with Merc) or Alonso (who isnt winning anything). McLaren need Alonso as much Alonso needs McLaren. And McLaren fans should be very happy that they are getting a driver who is at the absolute peak of his powers - fresh from totally demolishing Kimi, in a way that Kimi has never been demolished. On the subject of Kimi, I cant believe he is any use as an F1 driver now - mentally, he will be crushed and Ferrari need to get rid of him asap.

I actually thought it was a forgone conclusion that McLaren Honda + Alonso = 2015, so I'm dumbstruck that this discussion is still continuing.

I can't see it either, even if Merc don't develop the car they will still probably be second best next year. The only thing I can see is the Senna angle, we know Hamilton looks up to Senna and driving a McLaren Honda is a step to emulating him.

I imagine the delay in confirming Hamilton at Mercedes is as much Lewis as it is the team. I expect he's holding out as bargaining to sign driver Number 1 rather than Number 44 carries a lot.

McLaren boss Eric Boullier says that the team is still on course to announce its drivers for 2015 before the end of this season.

Meanwhile Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen remain in limbo until that decision is confirmed.

“I hope to sort out our decision and driver line-up before the end of the season,” said Boullier. “It’s true that it takes a bit more time than maybe we would have let’s say dealt with, but it’s still on course to be announced and sealed before the end of the season.”

Meanwhile Boullier accepts that life is difficult for the current drivers, and especially Button.

“I understand obviously that he may not feel comfortable, and obviously he’s concerned about his future. I’m in charge of McLaren Racing and we have to build the best for the team. Drivers are obviously very important in the discussion, and Jenson is more than considered to stay with us for the long term. But we are still investigating what we want to do with our driver line-up, once we have all the data in our hands.”

Boullier says the decision is not affected by recent good results from Jenson: “We know the value of Jenson, and we know he is a World Champion class driver, and he has been a World Champion already, so we don’t need him to deliver an extra job on track to let’s say save his job.”

Alonso’s options for 2015

According to F1 gossip, Fernando Alonso is faced with a dilemma for next season. Here are the pros and cons of his three options for 2015.

Stay at Ferrari
Pros: Would really annoy Sebastian Vettel. Has finally found quiet lavatory at factory in which to have morning dump. Team already flexible about taking time off to have eyebrow partitioned.
Cons: Still can’t remember anyone’s name. Had been looking forward to betraying them this year. Can’t understand a word the other one is saying.

Move to McLaren
Pros: State-of-the-art eyebrow partitioning facility. Has already betrayed them once so wouldn’t be expecting it a second time.
Cons: Hates being made to take shoes off before entering factory. Can’t stay at Woking branch of Premier Inn after what happened last time with mini kettle. Inherent mistrust of the Danish.

Take year off, go to Mercedes in 2016
Pros: Get to spend more time partitioning eyebrow. 12 months off from Felipe Massa endlessly asking if they’re still friends. Cycling thing.
Cons: Will spend year worrying about loss of Air Miles. Eyebrow doesn’t go well with silver. Might get bored of not being able to betray anyone and accidentally betray self.

:D

Changing teams for that reason is a pretty daft thing to do but I could completely see Hamilton doing it.

I totally agree but I cannot think of any sensible reason for him to go McLaren therefore must consider the ridiculous. Slightly arguing against myself I also thought Merc wasn't a good move so what do I know.
