F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I've heard that the third seats have to go to a rookie though :/ and they aren't allowed to score points. Which is ridiculous all over.

If they allowed the usual drivers to drive in them and they were allowed to score points that'd be epic, all for that.

As I recall, the rule is that teams only score for their two best placed drivers. If a junior driver manages to outclass one of his senior teammates, he would get to score.

Well that is one of the more sexist comments I have seen on this forum (and I frequent GD often).

Alice Powell is hardly "some bint". She has probably got as many championship wins as Max Verstappen though  even if it is not as consistent.
And according to tha tlink, she may only be paying for a practise seat, just like Suzy Wolff does. The actual drive could go to Van de Garde as the reserve.

Giedo van der Garde is Saubers reserve driver, not Caterhams.
Caterhams was Alex Rossi, he sodded off earlier this year.

I think the current reserve/test drivers are Roberto Merhi and Robin Frijns.

They would never allocate points based on the finishing positions. They would be nominated at least before the weekend, likely set for the whole season.

And it would be WCC points they wouldn't score. WDC points would be earned by all drivers, 3rd driver or not.

as Skeeter said - it would be daft to have three potential scorers starting (ie any two of the three), then the team cant possibly loose, unless they are completely out of the points with at least two cars.

What I was really posting about was the "rookie rule" - I haven't seen anything official at all, I thought it was just a hypothesis on here about how 3 car teams could work, having one driver as a rookie

Does Wolff pay for her seat? I didn't know that? The way I see it, Powell is just as bad as Max Chilton... Hey Granddaddy... please buy me a seat in F1.

Anyway, I'm not even sure she can qualify for a super license!?

FIA said:
To qualify for an FIA Super Licence the requesting driver must already be the holder of a Grade A competition licence, and additionally meet the requirements of the 2013 FIA International Sporting Code, Appendix L.[1][2] These requirements state that the driver must be either the reigning champion in a lower category of motor sport, for example Formula 3 (British, Italian or Japanese championship, or Euro Series), Formula 2, or GP2 Series (formerly known as Formula 3000), or must have consistently finished well in these categories. For example, a driver finishing in the first three positions five times within the last two years in GP2 will be eligible for a Super Licence.

Yeah, Super license rules mean nothing. Max Verstappen was able to get one and the only car he's driven is an F3 car for one season.

I'm pretty sure if I could stump up the cash then I could probably get one too.

Verstappen needs to prove himself. He had a so so start to 2014, then blazed to 6 straight wins in F3, got signed to Red Bull as the new Messiah, got a drive in STR, and then went back to being so so for the rest of the season and ended up 3rd in the F3 Championship.

His position in F1 hangs off a 2 round winning streak. So, as with Kvyat, I'm going to start off in the "Lol what the heck is that guy doing in F1!" camp, and wait to be proved wrong.

That's nothing, Kimi went straight from Formula Renault to F1. Caused a right stink at the time, Max Mosley said he wouldn't get a Superlicense and had to do a season in F3 or F3000 first. Come March he scored a point in his first F1 race...

I'm sorry. But anyone decent in the brawn (Honda) car would have won that championship

Button was flattered by a par team mate
Just like with red bull. If you have a weak team mate and far superior car you can't help but win

not the case. it doesnt matter how good the car is if the driver cant steer it properly. also works for a top driver and a mediocre car. look at schumacher in mercedes. you need a good balance to win. riccardo or bottas being good examples. i think bottas will be a future world champion. maldonado showed some promise last year but hes still trying silly overtakes and causing collisions.

im interested to see how well kyviat does next year as hes another one who looks to be a top talent.

Raikkonen was older and started during the days of virtually unlimited testing. It took 6 days of running before he was on pace during the winter. I also have to wonder if his true potential was somewhat stunted by that lack of development early on...

Fair point. That said Kimi had 10 years karting behind him, as does Verstappen. They've both got a season in a mid-spec slicks and wings car. It's roughly equivalent.

Verstappen might get limited in-car testing, but they've got unlimited simulators time to help prepare. OK, so its not pulling 4G round the corners, but they're very advanced.
