F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Well Kimi has been nowhere this year and we will probably never know if Alonso's drives were fantastic or not as he hasn't had decent competition. In fact last year, Massa wasn't always a million miles away from him.

Massa took one heck of a beating at the hands of Alonso, so I'm not sure how you can say that Massa was not far off Alonso.
In fact, Ferrari felt that Massa was so bad at his job they fired him.

They brought in Kimi who also took a hammering.
Before Kimi arrived he was highly regarded (check back to see what fans/pundits were saying about Kimi, a year ago). Some F1 articles stated that the Ferrari driver line up was the strongest in F1 history and this may have been the case. The problem was the terrible car they built. Still Alonso did an okay job in that dog of a car.

I'm going to let the statistics below do the talking:
This year's points differences between team-mates:
driver name, [points] >> percentage difference

Alonso [161], Kimi [55] >> +192%
Button [126], KMag [55] >> +129%
Ricciardo [238], Vettel [167] >> +42%
Bottas [186], Massa [134] >> +39%
Hamilton [384], Rosberg [317] >> +21%

I've seen some great drivers, but Alonso for me is by far the best of his generation. Its stats like these which are making Honda weak at the knees for Alonso.

BTW: check out the Button vs KMag stat

In reality Alonso does not like a decent team mate..

Neither does Hamilton, so what. Top F1 drivers are extremely self centered. The only one Hamilton hasn't had issues with is Kova because he was slow.

Vettel and Hamilton are probably about equal.
The differences in their performance levels are really small..

It's small between them all. What 0.5% of the lap time or less. The argument should be why the hell they get paid 10m and the designers less than a 10th of that :p

Kimi has been dire since before he won the title, inconsistent and can barely get a car working if he doesn't turn up on a friday and it all gels. Even in the Lotus year where he was a consistent plodder I took flack for saying he wasn't all that. Gosjean and that car flattered him. Even Kimi said they should have won more and earlier. Alonso and Hamilton would have had a real shout at a title in that car. He entered f1 with a handful of race in the TC era, he clearly struggles with the motivation and dedication required to be the very best. Ferrari should have wiped the slate clean and kicked him out again. Hell they could probably get better results from Webber.

The latest rumours on twitter say that Button will be announced as a Porsche WEC driver sometime in the next couple of weeks. Unclear at the moment whether he will be alongside Webber or will be driving the newly announced 3rd car.

I'd take it with a huge dose of salt, as with all the other rumours around McLaren/Button/Alonso at the moment.

#Hamilton: "McLaren would be smart to keep Button. You need strong drivers to lead the team, he's the full package"

Starting to like Lewis a lot more now. :)

Should be fairly straight forward, he wants to stay, they want him to stay... Just a matter of for how long and how much.

I would guess as he has said he's in no hurry as he has a drive for 2015 that Hamiltons team would be keen for Alonso's deal at mclaren to be announced first. If Alonso get's a 1 year deal at Mclaren there is always that option Merc can beat him with. If Mclaren tie Alonso down to a multi year deal then Lewis holds a few more of the cards.

People talk about Button being the 'more expensive' option over K.Mag but couldn't just offer to keep him for 1-2 years on the proviso that he will be paid the same wage as K.Mag was in 2014?

Surely he's still be on a million quid or so per year so not exactly a slap in the face given the fact he gets to drive in F1 still for Mclaren.

Le Mans and Spa 24h I think. Either way I'd be surprised if it's true.

Le Mans and Spa, and they have confirmed the drivers will come from the 5 shortlisted from their GT and Junior ranks that have already had trial runs in the car.

And they have also confirmed the other 2 cars will keep the same 6 drivers as this year.
