F1 2018

Yeah playing without traction control on a controller is impossible I swear, I keep it on medium to preserve my sanity :p
I'm playing with xbox pad/g29 wheel assists off for both. I find that the assists cause understeer, so it makes sense to me that no assists is faster. Having said that my best time in Torro Rosso in hot lap mode on Singapore is 1:43:800 or something, so it all comes down to the famous "if everything's under control, you are not going fast enough". Meaning probably I'm not going fast enough :)

But still, xbox triggers have long enough travel and are precise enough to modulate gas and brake with no traction control - and have fun in the process. Short shifting helps too, as it does in RL as I understand.
Got to say this looks very impressive, seriously thinking about picking it up.
It's the first F1 game that has managed to draw me in. Previous attempts (F1 2015 and something before that) were uninstalled after half an hour or something. I put it down to the 1000Hz physics engine that's been put in this year. The game looks good in motion, unlike F1 2015 that was looking cool only when paused :)

I did play '17 without traction control for a while, but then i got to a wet race and got too annoyed with my trigger self-control :D

I use DSR and the game looks stunning, I've even grown to like the halo :p
Compressed jpegs do not do it justice:

Cars' motion is pretty tasty as well this year, really hope Codies will continue to enrich these kind of animations for wings, suspension, body flex etc

hi may I ask how you turn on and of the dsr settings ?
I have a 1080ti and i7 cpu plus a gsync 144hz monitor and looking to get the best possible graphic seettings

Right click desktop > Nvidia control panel > manage 3d settings > global settings tab > DSR factors. Tick x2 ,x3 and x4 for example. Then select one of the higher resolutions in f1 2018 video options and enjoy :)

thankyou,
so if I have a 1080ti,i7,gysync 144hz would I select dsr factors x4 ? what about dsr smoothness ?
and how do I turn them both of when not playing f1 2018 ?

I have smoothness set at 23%, but it depends on the monitor, native res, DSR factor etc...

As for the factors - I run x3 on my HDmonitor, x4 does not really bring anything extra imo. No need to disable DSR when not playing, the setting simply opens up possibility to select higher than native resolutions in games' options. If the higher resolutions are not selected in other games/programs, they are not used. Where they are used, the program remembers the setting, so you can just forget about it after it's set.

great info mate,
so my monitor is a dell 1440p/144hz gysync so would I select dsr factors x3 ?,
what would be my smoothness be considering my monitor is 1440p ?
I assume you turn of the AA on the f1 video settings in game ?

AA is on, I run everything maxxed + DSR on top (1080ti here as well, old i5 though), just to clear the shimmers on suspension arms and the like.

Factors - even x2 would be great in your case as your native res is already above the 1080p standard. Just see what your 1080ti will give you as DSR will eat into your frame rates. My monitor is HD 60Hz so I can do anything DSR wise and still stay at 60fps limit, but at higher res/higher Hz you'll may need to compromise.

Smoothness -hard to say with regards to your monitor but the rule of the thumb is 15-20% *they say*. Smoothness is less important than DSR itself anyway :)

Is anyone else getting weird slow down? Sometimes, completely randomly, the game will just begin to stutter out of nowhere and only stops if i quit to the menu and go back in? It's very strange seeing as the rest of the time it runs flawlessly at 60 fps.

Yes! I get this sometimes, its random and cannot explain it.
(Happens once or twice in a couple hour gaming session).

Blimey, never knew about this! Is this supportable with any monitor? Whats the hit on performance like??
Is it enabled in the Geforce Experience Software?
Or is it enabled in game?

I think it can be used on any monitor, you just need a good enough gpu (i think 970/80 or better). It's enabled through the nvidia control panel. I can't tell you about performance though as I'm only running a 770 :p

man the rule changes at end of every season is a little annoying, it was only reliability upgrades i had to do at end of last season now am getting stung for engine and chassis upgrades this season. i should manage to do it but it completely halts the upgrading.

Is it possible to do the career with the real drivers and not as an avatar?
Hmm I checked youtube video comparisons...

Honestly is there really a notable difference? Or am I missing something here?
Youtube HD videos are compressed to hell and back, 4K youtube vids are a must for racing games - even on sub 4K monitors. And even there there is still some smudging going on.

I had a lot of jaggies/shimmers on suspension arms and wings in replays, DSR has eliminated that completely and made everything crisper.
