F1 2019 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Not helped by having slow drivers, but as the man responsible for coordinating the direction of all the different areas it would have been pretty hard to stay. Worryingly, I'd interpret the departure as Williams / Smedley still not fully understanding where the gaps between data and performance actually are.

He should have stayed at Ferrari. Considering the image he had begun building for himself it only seemed like career suicide to follow Massa to a failing Williams team.

"Felipe baby, stay cool".... :D

I seem to remember he wanted to be back in the UK closer to his family, he was given a higher role and when he joined Williams they were the second fastest team (on some circuits) - I can certainly see why he joined.

Why Kubica is in the frame at Ferrari

Robert Kubica continues to chase a Formula 1 race drive for 2019, but with his hopes on that front dwindling, it has emerged that he could land a high-profile reserve role with Ferrari instead. Glenn Freeman is joined by Autosport's F1 journalists Scott Mitchell and Edd Straw to discuss if such a move is right for both parties, and what it means for Kubica's career ambitions

Reports that Robert Kubica has been offered the 2019 race seat at Williams and will make his mind up over the next few days between that or a longer term Ferrari development deal.

On PF1 and a few other sites, I think he’ll take the Williams deal, see if he can prove himself in a race car rather than endless hours in a simulator at Maranello.... would be great to see this story actually get the happy ending that we’ve been wanting, Robert back in F1.

I do think Hamilton will end up in red at some point. Hamilton and Leclerc will be a great pairing!

Kubica has to take a race seat now. Williams is his best bet and he can make a go of it.
All he has to do is beat his teammate and it's a success. He will have done something incredible.
Who knows where he will end up after that.

Kubica confirmed at Williams.

I'm torn. One the one hand - great news, was hoping that he'd make it back into a race seat. On the other hand - it's with Williams, who show absolutely no signs of an upturn in performance. Their only saving grace is that they aren't wasting quite as much money as McLaren in the quest for oblivion.

In all fairness they can't have a worse season..

Really happy to see Kubica given a chance again, he was Hamilton/Alonso level before the unfortunate injury. And he doesn't seem to be the type of guy to return unless he still 'has it'.

Williams probably have the best driver pairing they can hope for. Kubica has huge technical knowledge in setting up cars, this will be massively beneficial to Russell too who will be no slouch.
