That is interesting. All cars bar the Alfa are overweight. 10kg works out at 0.4s a lap. So up to 20 odd seconds over a race. That could give Alfa a huge advantage over some other mid-field runners or heavier teams.

Verstappen first to drop below the 1:32 mark. Looking good too, and attacking the kerbs much more than I've seen from other cars this test.

Am thinking the team might have problems in telling him to slow down, and stay away from kerbs, as it is not his style, untill after he has destroyed couple of floors and had a DNF or two.

Last year verstappen had the fastest time merc 1.1s behind. Merc then won the 1st race. Just shows you can't take anything from testing

Exactly Russell is only 7 tenths behind this year.

And you can be fairly sure in same car setup for speed, and not long run duration setup like he has been all test, Hamilton will be that much faster.

They are struggling to keep their car attached to the track, don’t get me wrong I always want Lewis to win, but I don’t think he has a chance this year.

I don't see any chance for him in the first few races (the first race is a week tomorrow, so there's not time for big changes) but depending on how fundamental the problems are I wouldn't rule out Merc either making the concept work or abandoning it for a working sidepod plan later in the season.

I wouldn't underestimate their ability to bring upgrades. That new RB floor has transformed their car. Ferraris have looked good from the start. The Merc certainly does look tricky right now but I wouldn't be surprised to see plenty of new bits at that first race.

I’ll be happy if any car is up there other than red bull. Ferrari looking strong, would be good to see them back at the top.

Testing has absolutely no relevance to what will happen in the first race...

It’s mind blowing how obsessed with times people are. Even the most popular websites report them as if it’s a qualifying session.
