F1 Testing 2010

Sounds ideal for a small team. Disassembles rapidly for easy storage.

maybe they got inspiration from a ferrari

OMG what happened there? How come the drivers still has legs?

That's Schumi's '99 F399 ,Frits Kroyman split it in the Clienti event at the 2004 Monterey Historics. He was a little bruised but walked away.

he spun on some oil and caught a wheel on a tyre wall, the car split in half, i think ferrari claimed it was due to the age of the materials.

First time I saw those images my mind went back to 1990 and seeing Donnelly still strapped into his seat lying in the middle of the track with no car around him.

From the way that has broken, it looks to me like the front was "pulled" away from the tub, so his legs would have just dangled out, perhaps dragged along his heels a bit.

Im assuming he was going backwards when the wheel got caught up?

From the way that has broken, it looks to me like the front was "pulled" away from the tub, so his legs would have just dangled out, perhaps dragged along his heels a bit.

But if the tub was moving at high velocity, perhaps even twisting and turning, in the air or the ground, his legs could quite easily have been pulled/snapped off.

I wouldn't want to be in his position, if I was going at 20mph, let alone the sort of speeds he would've been doing in an F1 car.

Im not saying that its a good thing!

I was just trying to get my head around the accident, and how the front got tore away so cleanly, and he ended up un-scathed!

Clearly some form of stress has caused the materials to deteriate, and left him with a much more dangerous car than originally contructed. He was just lucky (?) that the accident was as it was, and not one that could have left him legless!

That RedBull is looking pretty handy, though as the week progresses we shall see what the Ferrari and McLaren do.

My own feeling is that once Hamilton gets in the car, he will ensure that the McLaren finishes up at the top of the time-sheets. Expect Alonso to push hard on the day of his final test.

RedBull have really surprised me though, as they were quick in the previous test, as well.

Well Webber certainly thinks they have the best car ...

We still have to wait to see just how fast Ferrari and McLaren can go, when they go for their glory runs.

In any case, its looking very good for RedBull, as they were quick in the last test as well, indicating they are genuinely fast and not just quick on a single track.

Myself I think the renault engine will be the thorn in the side of this team if they are front runners.

Barcelona has a long straight and requires a good amount of power. What makes you think that Renault are going to be a problem?

Well it wasn't that reliable last year and It looked like Red Bull was going to change from renault as well so they must have concerns. Testing is one thing but multiple races on the same lump is quite another.

Maybe renault have cured all the problems from last year, somehow I doubt it.

Definately, I'd love webber to win a title. Can't see him getting the better of vettel but i'd love to see it happen.

People forget the weight advantage Seb has over Mark. It's much easier to setup Seb's car as he has more ballast to play with. I would love Mark to win as well, as he was so distraught after 2nd place at Silverstone and thought he would never get that 1st win.

Do you think with the heavier cars this year, with more fuel that ballast advantage Vettel has might not be so critical with the larger shift in weight during a race?

Plus it can't have helped webber recovering from his leg.

I'd love webber to go well next year. A friend of mine works for him regularly and cannot speak highly enough of him, how down to earth he is. Plus he sent me loads of signed stuff as a wedding gift, with a nice message. :)
