F1 Testing 2010

He is a cracking bloke, had a few beers to many with him after Silverstone and he is just one of the lads out of the car. There will still be a advantage for Seb, he can shift 10KG about that Mark cant which makes setup easier on that side of the garage.

Q&A with Mark

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81705

Fernando and I had a little chat in Jerez. Pedro's been in touch a bit by email, but we'll probably have a chat this week with how we go forward. It should be pretty straightforward to be honest

Oh dear Marks having chats with teflonso and swapping emails with pedro, we know how that tale goes ;)

Expect the ferrari to look like the red bull very soon ;)

I'm sure Webber would love to win a title, but to be honest, looking at the calibre of the other contenders (Schumacher, Hamilton, Alonso) it would be a bad joke for him to come away with anything more than a win or two. If anyone is a potential contender at RBR, it's Herr Vettel.

(No offence Nuts :p)

pitty he suffers from Ombrophobia

lol :D

I have to say im a little supprised with Lotus so far, they look like they genuinely have the legs on virgin! (first outlandist prediction of the season is id tip them for the odd point or two for just having impressiveish reliability for a brand new team).

Also going to agree with everyone above, id love to see Webber have a really good shout at the title this season, hes one of the drivers i really like to see interviews with (like Rubens they both come across as real people opposed to just racing drivers)

Today's times (added to OP):

Code:
[b]Pos Driver Team Time Laps[/b]

 2. Alonso Ferrari 1:20.637 134
 3. de la Rosa BMW-Sauber 1:20.973 114
 4. Liuzzi Force India-Mercedes 1:21.056 90
 5. Vettel Red Bull-Renault 1:21.258 125

11. Glock Virgin-Cosworth 1:25.942 52

So I take it that we're gonna have a rookie in a Williams powered by a Cosworth engine dominating the season, because teams obviously don't sandbag. ;) :p

Williams were 'upping' themselves in F1 Racing this month, but I don't see them really ever doing well against 'the big four' now.

You cant base your predictions based on a single day of a multi day test. Most, if not all teams, will and have been testing their cars, across different fuel loads and set ups.

It just so happened that today, Williams were probably testing their fastest setup allowing Hulkenberg to finish top of the time sheets.

I do agree with one thing you said - teams do not sandbag (go slow on purpose) as it offers little benefit, but may place the team at a serious disadvantage. This is why the teams/cars/drivers who are generally fast in pre-season testing, are also fast in the first few races of the season.

I've asked somebody to pull out some stats/examples which show a team/car/driver to be slow in pre-season testing and then destroy the opposition, come the opening few races of the season. No one has come up with any such examples.

My opinion after the first two days:

Ferrari are ahead with Redbull 2-3 tenths behind. Mclaren seem to have dropped off the pace with Hamilton's stint today been much slower than Ferrari/Redbull- maybe the track is exposing some aero weakness?

Don't forget that this is the first test in Barcelona. It could well be that the McLaren just isnt suited to this track.

It is scary for McLaren though - yesteday Button was considerably slower than the leader. And today Hamilton (of all people), was considerably slower than the (different) leader. I hope for the sake of a good Championship, that McLaren are testing out slow/heavy/sub-optimal setups.

I really don't think McLaren have tried any low fuel laps yet this test, they weren't a million miles away from Ferrari at the first test, and then the quickest car each week for the 2 tests in Jerez, and now they're 1.5 seconds off the pace? Somehow I doubt that...

Who knows though, I could be completely wrong, but we'll find out by the end of sunday :)

While teams may not go slow on purpose, they may choose to run an entire test day (or even whole test meet) with never less than half a tank of fuel in the car. They can still get lots of useful testing done on a full car.

Yes. Of course.

Though it would make more logical sense to test across all fuel loads and set ups (time allowing). It would be folly to use computer simulations to predict how a car will behave on a low fuel setup.

LOL Are you still going on about this?. It was explained earlier in the thread why teams would sandbag to start with.
