*** FA Cup - Qtr Finals - 12th & 13th March 2011 ***

I'm sure people could probably find four games this season where the likes of Rooney has 'done nothing' as well.

I would say more than 4 games:p...first half of the season poor greedy Rooney couldnt even hit the net, it was Berbatov who was scoring majority of the goals in the first half of the season:p.

Wilshere is an amazing talent for someone of his age...the way he bossed around the midfield in the first leg against Barca shows his maturity...hes becoming a very important player for us.

I rate Wilshere so highly, class on the ball and has a bit of fight which hasn't been seen in an Arsenal midfielder for a while. Maybe needs to bulk upa bit but I think he's quality.

He does need to bulk up, but you won't find many 19 year olds that don't.

Another thing to bear in mind is that technically speaking Wilshere presumably maybe wasn't supposed to be playing so regularly this season, however as usual due to injuries Wenger's hand was forced. Depending on the opposition, you'd have expected him to be fighting it out for a place with Rosicky, Walcott, Diaby, Ramsey etc. Obviously, he's now proven himself to be above Rosicky, Diaby and (due to injury) Ramsey in the pecking order, and with Arshavin's poor form this season he's now established himself in the side (in other words, we're keeping Nasri out wide rather than bringing him in alongside Song and Fabregas).

has anyone got a gif of gibson comnpletely outfoxing 2x arsenal players from a standing position? lol.

Have to say however, that gibson looks about as lazy as they come, he barely broke into a jog all game! i think he's been watching carrick too much.

'cause running about lots makes you a better player.

Well running around at least makes it look like you are doing something, either creating space, getting into space etc.

The only time he had to run is when someone stretched him forward with a pass, and then as if to say, 'dont make me run boi', he then just kicked the ball off the pitch for an arsenal throw instead of just passing the ball to Valencia. It was a nice moment.

Physical presence was on display in at least two of the games you mentioned, what makes him good is the eye for a pass, making good runs, understanding of how to link with teammates (even at 17 before he was in the team he just seemed a natural at this) ability to tackle, and potential to be a leader (notice how when Sczezny got injured, he was the one having a chat and giving him a back on the back). In yesterday's game when he was contesting balls with Rooney, you could see a mutual respect there, something Rooney often doesn't show towards our midfield.

I've seen Wilshere in more than four games, since before he made his debut, to probably a dozen untelevised matches, in my opinion he's a good player, if you are prepared to write off a teenager on the basis of two games against the best team in the world (where he outperformed superstars like Fabregas), and two games against the best team in the country (based on results this season), fair enough, I'm sure people could probably find four games this season where the likes of Rooney has 'done nothing' as well.

Or another point of view is my mum could play better than someone who can barely walk having been rushed back from injury and he made no impact at all against the weakest United side for decades.

I think Ramsey will turn out to be far better than Wilshire, who is getting loved up for one fact and one fact alone, he is English.

It would be a struggle to ONLY find four games where Rooney did nothing :D (although he has looked much better recently)

edit - Surely Walcott is a wide player , does Wishere ever play wide positions? (As you suggest they compete for the same spot)

I like Wilshere as a player, no bones about it at all, he needs to develope but as you said he's only 19 - within a couple of years he should have a healthy number of England caps under his belt which if nothing else will help Arsenal's cause no end. - Nearly a ready made Fabregas replacement for when the latter goes off to Barca :)

Ramsey is only (slightly) better because he has a little more experience, hopefully Ramsey gets back to full fitness over the summer and then it will be competition between those two who gets more senior starts (I personally think Wilshere will, but its a close call)

I wasn't constantly watching Gibson but i remember he somehow managed to reach the ball before it went out for a goalkick/corner and swung in a really good cross. He had to do this whilst running at full speed and with 2 defenders. Perhaps it was a one off though...!

It still looked impressive.

I do remember, i didnt say he was all bad, the skill was good. Also that cross you mentyioned was pinged in, and made me think, wow i wish we had wingers who could cross like that...

That works both ways. Running about a lot can leave gaps and space to be exploited. Players don't need to run about at 100 mph.

I would challenge you to name me one great player who managed to make a career from not moving or running during a match. ;)

I don't remember saying that players shouldn't move or run.

Beat Liverpool 2-3 In the Youth Cup, they went 2-0 up but we brought it back. Didn't rate the refereeing much and both teams ended up with 9 men and it got fractious at the end. Morrison, Pogba and Tunnicliffe look like good prospects.
