Rather than start a new thread.

Had a strange/interesting one today - was out in town for a few appointments (so had my phone off) and then went into Vision Express in our local Tesco for an eye test - while waiting briefly interacted with one of the girls working in Tesco. Just now had her pop up as someone I might know on Facebook - no friends of friends, etc. and the only thing that could possibly tie me to that location would have been my card payment for the eye test (or some conspiracy level thing with facial recognition hah). Very very unlikely she knew my name even if she had any interest in looking me up.

Very strange coincidence.

It happened to me, too. It is not a coincidence. My guess is that there are cameras out there which detect you and then send data to facebook.
If not other electronic devices...

I also think it is possible they use satellites to spy us all.

Deleting FB now means in future you will be denied basic things like driving licence, insurance, air travel, job interview, medicine, etc etc.
. . .
Yeah, right.

ps - you forgot to mention oxygen, surely you will also be denied oxygen?

How do tin-foil hat wearers like you manage to get through the day without your brain void exploding?

No breathing is not controlled & commercialised. Theres no mechanism to do it with oxygen yet. So no not yet. But it is in their interests.

Also the video is from tom so you're calling Tom Scott a CT nut lmao. Dude is one the smartest youtuber ever.

Lol can't believe people deny things which are ALREADY happening under "CT nut" crap.

This is why crap like this is taking over. People think that denying it's happening, means it's not happening.

Hilarious.

Call me a CT nut when I warn about the dangers of epsis data since even before the Minerva initiative almost a decade ago. And then still call me a CT nut once epsis data is actually starting to be exploited.

Amazing.

This is not the (only) reason you are being called a CT nut.

the main reason you are being called a CT nut is because you are actually a CT nut ;) :D

How did you become informed about this? Now take a step back and think about it...

Assuming vision express can provide good optics .. would it be illegal (GDPR etc) for them to face-id you at the entrance.
maybe using the microsoft system that was in the news recently, for issues recognising different races.

Could even drop an email to Vision express saying their employee and your privacy is imapacted - why ?

A Facebook bug let app developers see photos users had uploaded but never posted, the social network has disclosed. (Guardian)

A major stadium in Los Angeles has confirmed that it uses facial recognition tech during sport and music events, to spot known troublemakers. The Rose Bowl told news site Gizmodo that it used the tech "inside and outside" the stadium gates. (BBC Online)
Still, if you have done nothing wrong, you needn't worry ;)

Well, yeah. If you're not a known trouble maker/hooligan then you don't really need to worry about whether you'll be able to get into a stadium to watch your favourite team. It seems like quite a good idea to spot troublemakers and deny them access, we've been doing it for a while in the UK.

It would be very worrying and I highly doubt that there is a connection there - none the less the opticians part was pretty much incidental other than being the reason for being in that vicinity - a more likely explanation if there was something dodgy going on was that Tesco has some facial recognition system that is somehow connected to FB but I highly doubt that as the backlash if that became known (and it would) would not be good. At the same time I find it hard to believe it was coincidence but there is also the aspect that it hasn't shown any other person I interacted with during that day - the simplest explanation is that in some way she found my profile on Facebook and friend suggestions on FB does include people who search for you but I have no idea how she'd have known who I was to look me up.

As someone who has previously worked in database development and have some programming experience I find this aspect of Facebook curious as I've seen results a number of times where I can't fathom out the connection unless some deeper processing was going on i.e. Facebook is somehow capturing and processing images at will from user's phone camera, etc. but again if that came out there would be no end of trouble - and they'd unlikely show their hand in that respect by using it to feed friend suggestions unless there is a lot of arrogance as to anyone catching on.

Good grief. Establishing technology which will doom the entire future of the human race under the guise of football hooliganism. This nonsense idea will not stop hooligans from existing. The hooligan can just go to the next pub and be a hooligan there. :D Can't believe people think this is an actual solution to a problem.

Be careful people, some people buy shares in things and then try promote them endlessly on forums.
