If you think all this is bad. I know for a fact of a council that track your movements using the bluetooth tag of your phone.

They use this to “monitor traffic” and when i questioned it was quickly shushed

(I know because i installed a load of the sensors/recivers)

How long before you can't turn off the BT module in your phone...

What makes you think you are actually turning it off

Plenty of people out there with the skill and equipment to check - the ~2.4GHz band especially - it would be picked up a long time ago if the option to disable it didn't actually disable it.

BT/GPS are fully disabled unless I need them
so why don't you disable location services completely ie wifi/gprs too. unless required. ?

I suppose I am intrigued to know reasons why people have gps/bt/wifi on at all, unless they need locations/music, or connection to insecure hotspots
(I see there are now tv adds for vpn's ... but if the wifi is on they will still know you are there)

Location services are disabled completely as well - toggled on/off manual the odd time I use the phone for Satnav, etc. which is a lot of the reason I posted as I'm curious when I don't have any of the easy ways they could have got that information enabled.

Wifi I do have enabled, though it will only connect to known networks and no apps have permissions to access it specifically i.e. to see what networks are in range.

But ain't the BT range only about 10metres

Remember when I had a pair of BT headphones and they would lose the signal at anything over 10metres if that

For portable device to portable device - but a fixed installation that was monitoring for such probably has a high gain antenna, etc. and you'd place them strategically around bottlenecks, etc.

EDIT: Range is (potentially) easily over 10m though - a few years back I was transferring a file to a friend phone to phone over BT while walking around a medium to large building - upto 50m away with walls and so on in the way and it completed fine without any interruptions/retries.

Hence why they are mounted on lampposts and traffic signals

This is really funny but I posted that I was going to start a Huel diet in the New Year Resolution thread and now I'm seeing ads for Huel on Facebook and Instagram on my mobile. I've not even visited the Huel site in a very long time either.

So this Social Media site is in cahoots with that Social Media site

Social Media, as a long time user of the internet stay away is my advice.;)

Not worth it also turn off Bluetooth, mobile data and location tracking on your phone. I wish I could pop the battery on my phone, but I cannot. Also the power button is broke so cannot turn the bloody thing off. :(

You're on here though, this place has all the same stories but you're interacting with people you don't know.
On here you can tell the biggest lies you want but on Facebook your friends will see through you.
Also on here people can be proper dicks because nobody knows them.

They've been boosting that for a while on FB though, I've been seeing them for a couple of weeks now. They're probably just expanding their reach.
