Fallout: New Vegas

Bought this game in the Steam Sale but haven't played it yet, waiting to optimize my build before I get into anything (OC, make it as quiet as possible blah blah). Got any tips for me, like what attributes and stats I should assign to my character at the beggining etc :)?

bought the 2 expansions in the steam sale for £5. Well worth it.

And paid full price for the old world blues, again a lot of fun to play.

But bloody hell those robotic scorpions are hard to kill.

Takes about 10 shots with the Anti Material rifle

Do iiiiiiiiit....

Really into this right now - I haven't spent serious hours gaming for a while... all of a sudden I'm forcing myself to bed at 3am again - fallout3 style.

Helps that the girlfriend is away currently as well.

I love this game so much, finished it at level 23 switching to NCR after I bodged one of the Wild Card missions. Haven't touched the DLC yet so I reckon I'm going to start a new run through, do Wild Card properly and do all the DLC as well. The when the last DLC comes up I'll start over again and do a Caesars Legion Run.

got NV on ps3 but I think I will get on PC once GOTY version is out with all the DLC, what are the key mods for this?

Texture pack etc

Best thing to do is to go to Fallout Nexus and sort to top 100. There it will give you the most popular mods in each category.

Best texture pack is buenos.

And i linked to some omds a few pages back i think.

Anyone have issues with audio? Audio works perfectly if i plug a headset but when i disconnect them I only get background noise of the game coming through. So no voices, weapon fire and no menu coming through the speakers.

Old world Blues seems to getting some pretty good reviews-

All science will be mine!" "We want you to stop him. Somehow. With science." Fallout: New Vegas' latest DLC expansion, Old World Blues, revels in lines like those. And it's absolutely wonderful. Yes, the folks at Obsidian have clearly fallen head-over-mechanically-augmented-heels for Portal, but they use that goofy, self-aware sense of humour to great effect. Old World Blues is utterly ridiculous and it knows it, making it far-and-away the best piece of New Vegas DLC so far.
Frankly, there's enough ambition on display in Old World Blues that you could almost be forgiven for forgetting that it's a one-off DLC release. Almost. Sadly, it succumbs to a couple of classic DLC pratfalls. For one, enemy types tend to repeat themselves. Sure, you'll giggle with glee when you spot your first robo-scorpion, but you'll probably be singing a far angrier tune when robo-******* number 267 laser-blasts you in the back. Also, the DLC's first hour or so is a bit too chatty, revelling in its own dialog-centric cleverness when you just want to do something already.
By and large, though, Old World Blues is exactly the type of thing gamers dreamed of when they heard Obsidian was taking the reins on the Fallout franchise. It's got all the exploration you know and love, but with truckloads of the rib-tickling (and possibly removing) humour that was mostly absent in Fallout 3. Put simply, if you own Fallout: New Vegas, this one's, well, a no-brainer.

Old World Blues is the best DLC for Fallout New Vegas so far. It has set the bar for the upcoming Lonesome Road add-on. It’s cast of varied and unique character are at the heart of the experience. Each one helps liven up the already enticing story a little bit more. As for content, well this is Fallout; there’s plenty of it. However, players may feel fatigue part-way through from the similarly designed missions as they work through the story. Overall, Old World Blues is one of the greatest entries to Fallout DLC and should not be missed by any fan of the game.

Old world Blues seems to getting some pretty good reviews-

I'm not far into OWB but so far enjoying it a lot more than the previous releases especially against Honest Hearts. A seemingly big area to explore with plenty of locations to get into trouble in and some nice touches with going back to the 50's sci-fi b-movie feel.

My only gripe is the number of Roboscorpions and Nightstalkers that attack you at the same time in some places and they're getting repetative at least until you get some of the later weapon upgrades. Also, I'd agree with the review that mentioned the Portal-like humour at times though I think it's a good thing.

I played through New Vegas once when it first came out, but i'm waiting for all of the dlc to be released and until i've finished my playthrough of FO3. Then i am looking forward to playing it again. I haven't exactly been inspired by any of the dlc so far, but at least this looks like an improvement.

DLC which lets you play after the main quest would be nice though.

When they originally announced that they were not allowing free play after the main quest, i though that they might be planning for a major expansion at some point. Doesn't look like it now though.:(
Surely thay can't make the mistake again.

Playing through for the first time at the moment, really enjoying it and finding it quite addictive!

Couple of questions:

1 - Is it possible to store items securely? I.e if I just pick a box/ filing cabinet etc and dump all my stuff in there will it be there when I come back? I am carrying a lot of stuff around with me, unique weapons that I don't want to sell, crafting items that I "might" use in the future. I would like to be able to dump a lot of it somewhere- is this possible?

I have actually been posting stuff to myself in the drop box's to try and solve this in the meantime!

2 - I am experiencing fairly regular ctd's is this nOrmal? I heard the game was buggy.

I downloaded the 1st 2 dlcs a few weeks back through Steam but when I go into the game (after trying to start it a few times and getting the crappy windows error box) and go to the DLC menu, neither of them will start. I tried googling it and all I got was that there were issues with the DLC with bugged game saves which were meant to be ironed out in one of the patches.

So yeah... essentially I bought em and can't flipping play em. Anyone know of a fix or workaround I can use to get em working? When I click either of them in the DLC menu within the game it basically does nothing

I might be having a drp moment here gazza, how exactly do you mean you can't start them? because they are not standalone, do you mean you are clicking on the dlc's somewhere trying to start them?
They are added to the game as extra quests that you start in game

Apparantly there are 4 dlc's confirmed, so one left

You don't access the DLC like that, you load your game and go to the new map marker to start the DLC.

Cheers, guess I was just being dumb :D
