Fallout: New Vegas

they dont really tie in together I would play them for that reason, but still worth playing.

Well there are numerous mentions to the older games, like talking about The Master and his army of super mutants and stuff like that.

Might wait and see if they get cheaper during the winter steam sale. Got enough games to be playing right now anyway, not even finished with New Vegas yet for one :D

NV is pretty much a direct follow-on to Fallout 2, with the NCR establishing dominance over the Core Region and expanding to other states. The Brotherhood of Steel is closer to its portrayal in the first two games. One of the companions from FO2 makes an appearance, as well as a descendant.

Yup I would wait they can get very cheap, I got my copy of Fallout when they were giving it out for free!

Does anyone know what it takes to get Arcade Gannon to give out his quest? I looked on the Fallout Wiki and I've done a good number of the encounters with Arcade that contribute to him eventually giving the quest, but still nothing.

You checked this page? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/For_Auld_Lang_Syne

I take it you're not on the Legion path? You need to have progressed sufficiently in the other three routes along the main quest line.

Yeah I looked at that. And no I'm not doing the Legion path. I have Ceasers armour on display at my Lucky 38 hotel room to prove it :D

On the main quest I'm only up to The House Always Wins III. Just started doing the Boomers quests after a long derailment doing all sorts of side quests.

Bought the Ultimate edition in the sale, and only now decided to download it while i'm in work.

Since never playing a FO game, What's the general thought on the game? I'm assuming it should be pretty easy to get into, since its kinda like skyrim and i really enjoyed that game.

Its basically an RPG set 200 years or so after a nuclear war devestated the world. There world never developed micro-chips, so the tech is basically a 1950s version of the future, with cathode ray tubes still being used, but also advanced robot tech and energy weapons available.

Like Skyrim the Fallout games have a huge world to explore and tons and tons of quests, from the main quest line to a multitude of side quest chains. Theres also about 7 companion characters you can recruit and the DLC's each add on their own side story and areas.

Basically that ^ If you stick to the main quest it's pretty standard difficulty, if you decide to venture on your own into the wilderness early on though be prepared for a challenge! (albeit a fun one)

Also it's got some pretty awesome gore :D

That it does! Especially when you get good at head shots! :D

I got banned from gambling at the Tops Casino last night! I did make 10,000 caps from it though, so I guess I cant complain :p

You're in for a treat. This is way better than Skyrim.

Thats a fairly bold claim. I would say Fallout 3 would definetely give it a run for its money, but somehow New Vegas seems like a smaller world to me. Its still an awesome game, but I dunno if it beats out Skyrim.

Mind you there both such differently themed games, its not easy to compare them.

It's personal preference. There are lots of people who love Skyrim but I think there is also a large contingent of people who don't

I sunk 40ish hours into Skyrim and all the dungeons are so samey it feels like you're playing the same levels again and again. "Oooh look another dwarve dungeon that looks exactly the same". The actual world outside of the dungeons in Skyrim is lovely and so varied - that is it's main draw but completing quests just started to bore me as I was grinding the same levels and enemies again and again.

With FO3 and FONV the buildings/dungeons (for want of a better word) were really different and it had a varied world outside of them - although I will admit not as varied or amazing as Skyrim's.

I (personally) agree, Skyrim was fun for a while but I soon got bored with the dungeons and lack of variety it seemed... New Vegas' world may be a bit smaller but I like the fact there are so many different places to go, people to talk to (and all their little quests) etc.

Fair enough. I will admit that a lot of the Skyrim dungeons were quite repetitive, though its exterior world and towns were amazing :D

One niggle I have with New Vegas is how small the strip is. I know its impossible for them to have recreated the entire Las Vegas strip ingame, but I think they could have done than 3 casinos. They didn't even do Ceasers Palace! Think of the story possibilites from that! The Legion could have seen it as a sign that Ceaser was meant to rule there. And Mr House/NCR could have commented on how just because its called that, doesn't mean they'd ever let Ceaser sit on the throne there.

Oh well :p

If you set your Luck to 10 at the beginning of the game then you win pretty much every single hand at Blackjack, the casinos ban you from gambling after you win a certain amount of caps from each one. It's the easiest way to progress through the game at the beginning as you can just go to the Atomic Wrangler and then move onto The Strip within the first half hour of the game, makes accessing decent weapons and armour early on very simple.

Indeed. My luck was only set to 5 at first and I've raised it to 6 with the intense training perk. It actually took me well over an hour of playing slots and blackjack before I won enough for them to ban me. But I dont mind that really. Even without the most powerful weapons I've still been holding my own against most enemies. Its only the occasional Legion assasin squad that gives me any grief.

I agree the strip is very small, but then again I don't mind too much as there isn't much there to do for me, I spend most the time in the wasteland exploring random places (especially with the World of Pain mod)!

I would like to see Steam integrate its workshop into NV. I also would love to see a semi-realistic mod that did away with giant bugs and have more realistic looking factions, a bit like the tv series "Revolutions".
