Fallout: New Vegas

Just got my collectors edition through today, number 404 of 3400. I've finished installing and added the game.co.uk pre order code for the ingame items. Havn't had a chance to play it yet though. Quite a nice collectors edition, although I have still yet to find anything that comes close to the quality of my SWG collectors edition.

Been playing for almost 2 hours now after it unlocked @ 1am. I can safely say I will not be playing it much at all :( if every again now

As I expected the game is a huge letdown & massive disaster in so many ways

1: After it patched twice via Steam before I could even launch it the game is stable. FPS with max everything @ 1920x1200 for me is ok nothing special considering how bad the gfx are (Fallout3 were better in every way you can imagine!). Even all of the Fallout3 DLC looked much better than the crap here.

2: Its very obvious to me this game was knocked together very quickly then Obsidian put as much effort as possible into making every aspect of the game long winded & time consuming so you would think your getting value for money. Most gamers will get bored after 2 hours let alone much longer there is absolutely nothing of interest here content wise it all feels so generic & bland. All of the Fallout3 DLC was much more interesting.

3: The setting alone is just an excuse to tone down the gfx & spend less money on the stupid cowboy themed wasteland desert. Very little sci-fi elements like robots or other futuristic things you would expect to see.

4: If this game was an under £10 piece of DLC I would still feel like I had wasted my money as there really is so little to do here its like a vastly inferior Fallout3 clone in another way less interesting setting with some terrible bugs & a story which is so poor you will not believe how bland it is

5: Gfx are so shockingly bad you will not believe your eyes that this is a 2010 big budget sequel. Even with max everything on my uber rig it looks so bland & runs so poorly. If the art style was anygood I would not mind but the gfx really are badly drawn by some seriously untalented artists (maybe they were all students who worked for free. Would not surprise me in the least as I have seen Fallout3 mods look far better).

6: Game saves are very slow as well even on my brand new Vertex2-120GB SSD the saves are slow & the game engine jerks around whilsts its saving. So many bugs I cba to list them all.

This is one of the biggest letdowns ever & only a really hardcore Fallout fan will get much enjoyment out of it but even then the whole thing stinks like a quick cash in on Fallout3 reputation. It just feels so amateurish & unpolished

At best this is a medicore/highly bland Fallout3 DLC expansion no way should it be a full price product  Bethesda just blew the franchise AFAIC & Obsidian will never ever sell me anything again regardless as they are consistently poor this is probably their worse product yet it sucks in so many ways & steals everything from Fallout3 you have to wonder what they spent their 12 months doing as it was not improving the game engine quirks or crafting an interesting storyquest's :(

This game IMO is so shockingly poor if I knew what I know now I cba to install it & would have given it away this evening to a random stranger for free but now its stuck on my Steam profile forever :(

You decided all of that after two hours?

Way to jump on the "OMG ITS CRAP OBSIDIAN HAVE RUINED IT" bandwagon. I'll wait till I've played it for more than two hours to completely write it off as "their worse product yet" - as will anybody with any sense.

I played it for an hour last night, I can't say I was completely enthralled - and there were a few graphical glitches that annoyed me, but there was when FO3 was first released.

It's pretty much Fallout 3 with a new story.

Why were you expecting anything different?

no crashing or bugs so far, but the fps gets laggy sometimes only real problem so far is running out of ammo all the damn time lol

Haha :p I don't really run out of ammo too much - but I do run out of stimpaks quite a lot! I'm finding I'm raiding peoples fridges and cupboards a lot more for snacks etc. in this game than the previous Fallout 3 :p

I have 2 GTX260's in SLI and get huge stuttering if I turn around quite fast and the frame rate drops to 30fps from around 70fps... Is this normal? Been away from PC gaming for some time

The engine Fallout:New Vegas uses (as did Fallout 3 and Oblivion - Gamebro IIRC) is known to have stuttering issues (even with high framerates). Some users notice it, others don't. It also sounds like it has the problem of stuttering when it loads a new section of the area you are currently in.

Try disabling SLI to see if that helps at all.

Anyone tried Hardcore mode yet? I really like the idea of it but does it work well in practice?

I'll forego it on the first run through - might turn it on later if I'm finding it too easy.

The weapons are well better than FO3. Finding loads of nice touches and I still haven't left the first town :p

My Collectors edition just came. :) went home at lunch and got it.

3054 out of 3400 :)

It smells so nice haha!.

Can't wait to install it and read the prequal hardback comic.

Planning on playing poker with the cards.

But the people I play with are fussy if cards all don't look the same from the back. Anybody opend them yet?

Utter pos for me atm. Not even 10mins into the game and I've had two CTD's in that time. Performance is abysmal vs Fallout 3 to me.

On a 3.7ghz E6600 and a 4870 HD I can play Fallout 3 maxxed out without any stutters. On NV Sunny Smiles was stuttering all over the shop. It just feels heavily unoptimised right from the outset.

3.7ghz E6600
4GB Ram
ATI 4870
Win7 x64

Ran perfect for me after I installed that fix above.

I'll give it a shot cheers. Just wish I had bothered cancelling the game before it was released, I always felt from the screenshots that it would be Fallout 3.5.
