Fallout: New Vegas

Are energy weapons worthwhile? I'm at the start of the game where it lets you rebuild your character and fancy taking the wild wasteland trait. Problem is that it apparently means you can't get the Gauss Rifle as it's replaced by the Alien Blaster.

If energy weapons in general suck i'll take the trait when i play through again after completing it.

Am I being really stupid? How on earth do I add the mods to my gun? Got the night scope from the shop but it can't be added on either of the benches at Goodsprings. Not even a greyed out option.

edit: I am stupid, it was the pipboy

Arrgh what were you expecting?!?! :p

You knew it was built on the FO3 engine - so other than a completely new story and some enhancements - what else would it be?!
I expected the game to move forwards from that ancient engine, which hasn't aged to well. I knew nothing of the game as I wanted to avoid every spoiler.

The same sounds, the same music, the same PIPBoy screens, the same tiny scrollable dialogue boxes, which are fixed by mods yet again - there just doesn't seem to be enough progress from what I've seen so far and user reviews seem to state the same.

Fallout 3 from the start had me completely gripped. In NV my first hour saw me experience 3 CTD's, see myself stuck in a door frame, seen 2 gecko's glide past me off into the skyline, and seen two npc's stuck to the spot :)

Edit: Forgot to say, whoever suggested that .dll fix - it worked a treat. My framerate feels like it has doubled. Going to check now if it fixes my CTD's.

Relentless their is some news on steam that they have done a quick fix so should work. They have disabled cloud saves though.

Going to play this in the hard mode type thing where you have to sleep etc, about to start now, see you all in a week

Pentium dual core 2GHz (basicaly a C2D but with lower cache), 2GB DDR2, 8800gt, 1280x1024 with mostly max settings = runs like a dream, I didn't even need that .dll :D

Same expect i5, 4gb ram gtx 460 at the same res. Everything is on ultra high settings and very good frame rate. Tbh compaired to F3 i am enjoying it as much as the first, maybe even more and i am only at the begining.

Any idea if there are vaults on NV?

They were pretty worthless in FO3 so i imagine they still are. Then again so were Big Guns... and most automatic Small Guns weren't upto much either... and basically any weapon that wasn't a single shot rifle or an auto shotgun. You can make them work if you REALLY go for those weapons and those weapons only, Big Guns and Energy Weapons requiring you to buy most of your ammo, but they were always lacking compared to stealth critical headshots in vanilla.

Really not advisable on a first playthrough, you can only realistically use Energy Weapons once you know where to look.

I haven't had any crashes, slowdowns or glitches so far. Granted, I haven't played as much as I thought I would have by now, but I'm sure I'll get a good session in soon.

Running superbly for me just now on the rig in my sig. I'm only at 1440x900 though which is the max my wee 19" widescreen monitor goes to but it looks sweet running at max settings all ramped up and framerate is top notch.

Loving this game so far, although I've barely scratched the surface of it ( just out of the Docs house now and heading down into town :) ).

Well ive played now about 5 hours ish only done the first mandatory quests and explored instead just got to some NCR base got about 5 quests from their.

I like how the aim is better in this than fo3 when not using VATS its not perfect but by far an improvemeant,Leveling up dose seem to take more time in this though than fo3

Bugs etc im lucky i havent had any still been doing manual saves though

Just bought it and can't wait to start it.

But I thought I'd share a little story with you about something that happened when I bought it.

I went to one of the big stores where I work at the moment here in Germany, and I was actually refused sale at the till when I wouldn't show them identification papers proving I was over 18 years old. I'm 54.

Anyway, I got it in the next shop. :D

A compliment perhaps?

Had two crashes so far. One was the typical screen freeze, alt tab and music keeps playing but the game won't resume so have to kill the process :( Bit of a bummer.

As for the game, I'm enjoying it. Starts of a little slow and boring but picks up when you leave the town.

No crashes or anything here so far :D Some odd slowdowns but I think they are related to my outdated hardware and me trying to play it on ultra :x

Are Pre-war books and money useful for anything, or can I just sell them? Since in fallout 3, some NPC's had special trades for them.

Guns it is then. I'll just play through with that trait and energy weapons after the first run.

Two interesting reviews that say a big "**** you!" to all the little brats I and everyone else had to deal with when we were forced to fix Bethesda's brilliant but ultimately broken game, Fallout 3.

A game that still to this day isn't fixed.

Hopefully, this is the start of a company rethink at ZeniMax and other companies, that selling products that simply dont work isn't (and never should have been) acceptable.

This is gonna be an interesting couple of weeks for New Vegas.

Just had the most retarded glitch- I can't fire my weapon, but if I go to pip boy it exits and immediately fires off a round. It's completely ruined the game - nothing seems to stop it doing it.
