Fallout: New Vegas

Mini-review
Best character so far is probably No-Bark - the dialogue is brilliant. It's that sort of character that there needs to be more of - funny and eccentric, that ultimately makes the dialogue engaging.

This. No Bark Noonan is awesomely funny with his paranoid ramblings.
Must say Novac town is by far the best place i've seen so far, it leads to VERY funny/awsome Repconn Test Centre quest with epic ending.

Not that impressed with stealth though, level 8 character with it at 72 stealth but enermies see me a mile away.

Far more appealing to the eye that Fo3 wasteland, which i found incredibley bland, brown & boring. Oblivion still has the best environment for that epic Lord of the Rings type adventure. Plus the music was great.

My best advise is to follow the main story line to begin with. I got an immense satisfaction clearing town mission quests while not totally forgetting the main story. Walking off randomly was always my mistake with Fo3. Its clear the main story line is designed to prod you to certain epic quests that you would otherwise mis/not understand if walked apon randomly.

Have gone for energy weapon specialisation - but early game really enjoying the new guns (much improved over FO3 imo). Hopefully the energy weapons later on are good.

3 hours in and loving it for the same reasons I enjoyed Fall Out 3 but ammo is seriously scarce, i'm stuck and confused with what to do after doing a mission for Ranger Ghost and the stuttering is ruining it a bit

Also, does anyone know how to change the mouse in menu screen? it seems fine while controlling my character, but when I have a cursor up it seems like there is mouse acceleration or something.

***** The file that originally had to be edited was FalloutPrefs.ini - this has changed with the new Steam patch. The new file is now Fallout_default.ini in your Fallout New Vegas directory. *****

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas, or a similar directory)

These lines;

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

... need to go in your Fallout_default.ini under controls. Just copy and paste them in there under "bBackground Keyboard=1", or whatever the last line in controls is.

Thanks goes to Jaskano for posting the original fix for Fallout 3.

Anyone else got problems with progressively worse lag/sound stuttering when opening containers/VATS/etc? Bit of a game ruiner at the mo, and I don't remember it happening with FO3 on my old rig.

WOW, I just upped everything to Ultra and it looks fantastic compared to high :D

Loving it so far, even though I'm only 4-5 quests in, I'm yet to go to new vegas.

The point being though that these reviews WILL stop people from buying it.
Its a numbers game. This will have an effect on those numbers, despite how much money they make.

Couple this with the fact THEY KNOW they have shipped another broken game means that they will have to do something about it now or in future releases, or suffer wider and wider condemnation that will be reflected in sales.

Don't get me wrong these games are great, minus the game breaking flaws.

But its these flaws that have irritated, and in turn, stopped people from buying these titles.

Finally it seems, reviewers aren't falling under the pressure, and are now bringing these issues to the forefront of the attention of those responsible.

But the thing about Bethesda games (and this pseudo bethesda game) is that they always tend to be worth getting, at least at some point down the line. Instability problems and major/minor bugs that turn up at first either get patched out by the devs or patched out by the fans (unfortunately the latter party ALWAYS does the most work).

Though the combination of this being a Beth game not done by Beth, meaning it was always inevitably going to be glitchy, and the fact nothing they added was original, is making me hold off getting this until its going cheap or a GotY edition is out (and also going cheap). Hopefully by then it should be more stable and bug free and there should be some decent mods out. This game was never going to be a prepurchase for me because it is essentially Fallout 3 again, not Fallout 4. I could get more Fallout 3 purely by installing some different mods.

Fallout 2 was basically Fallout but different, New Vegas is 3 but different, better characters and storyline though.

Thanks, that was my only real issue with the game, and now its fixed :D

From the reviews i've read the characters are mostly loathsome or boring and while the storyline sounds interesting i'll wait for the future to see if they pulled it off. RPS paints the wasteland as feeling empty for the reason of laziness rather than artistic direction and given that they only had a year to make it i can believe it.

So any sequel that utilises the same engine doesn't deserve to be called a sequel? As somebody mentioned, the entire GTA franchise was basically one (or two - 2D and 3D) game before GTA4? The early Medal of Honour games - all one game? The past three or four FIFA games? I guess then there's only really been two or three actual Call of Duty games, i.e. ones where they've swapped engine. Did Fallout 2 deserve to be called Fallout 2? Should it have been Fallout 1: Continued?

Are you seeing how retarded your non-argument is?

It's all very well having an opinion, but to have such a strong one when you don't even own the game?

You must be reading some one-sided reviews; yes, there are bad points that deserve to be mentioned - but you seem to be hell-bent on putting a downer on the game, when the fact is, even with its (some rather big technical) flaws, its better than any other game I've played since FO3.

This tbh. I'm amazed people expected anything more than Fallout 3 with a new story and a few minor upgrades. Almost every franchise does this.

Fallout 3 was a great game imo, and I'm loving New Vegas so far. :)

I'm loving the game so far, everything is fine and plays just as F3, just wish the performance was better on my old rig, F3 run smooth on max and this game looks no different imo.

No crashes or major bugs yet and I am about 10 hours in I think.
