Fallout: New Vegas

Anybody found or acquired any cool stuff yet? I've got 'that gun' and a snow globe but that's about it.

But the thing about Bethesda games (and this pseudo bethesda game) is that they always tend to be worth getting, at least at some point down the line. Instability problems and major/minor bugs that turn up at first either get patched out by the devs or patched out by the fans (unfortunately the latter party ALWAYS does the most work).

Im not arguing against this fact. Im simply stating that ZeniMax are going to have to address this inherent problem they have of releasing broken games, because it will undoubtedly affect numbers in a negative way.

No doubt I'll purchase this game at some point.

But bare a thought for the less technical savy who dont even realise that fans/modders patch games.
Its those gamers aswell, that would be more inclined to be susceptible to advertising alone, until they have a bad experience.

Are you seeing how retarded your non-argument is?

I really dont think this non argument you perceive even exists. You've misinterpreted these comments quite a bit.

This game was never going to be a prepurchase for me because it is essentially Fallout 3 again, not Fallout 4. I could get more Fallout 3 purely by installing some different mods.

That was the point I addressed with what I said - how does it not exist?

So any sequel that utilises the same engine doesn't deserve to be called a sequel? As somebody mentioned, the entire GTA franchise was basically one (or two - 2D and 3D) game before GTA4? The early Medal of Honour games - all one game? The past three or four FIFA games? I guess then there's only really been two or three actual Call of Duty games, i.e. ones where they've swapped engine. Did Fallout 2 deserve to be called Fallout 2? Should it have been Fallout 1: Continued?

It's all very well having an opinion, but to have such a strong one when you don't even own the game?

I have to own it? I thought you said its basically Fallout 3? Besides, i can read. I can't really comment on the story or dialogue but i can comment on other things.

Fallout 3 came out 2 years ago and in that time there have been no engine upgrades, if anything theres been a downgrade since its Bethesda, who have experience with it, using it. The vast majority of new content was ripped straight from mods. The only thing that NV has going for it is whether the story, quests, dialogue and wasteland itself happen to be any good.

It'll probably still be a decent game, game-breaking bugs and crashing errors aside, but its still going to be nothing but a shadow of Fallout 3 trying to monopolize on it without any real inspiration.

Your argument centres on the engine. No one here has stated specifically as you claim, "the engine just makes it feel like a fallout 3 mod."
Its the many traits that encompasses New Vegas that leads people to this conclusion. When people say that it feels like Fallout 3 mod, that doesn't just mean the engine does it?

By that reasoning, you could have people who bought KingPin or Soldier Of Fortune saying "OMG this is just a Quake 2 mod" etc.

Your argument would be correct, but no one has said what you're saying they have.

Just recived the Fallout:NV collecters etd guide, and its fantastic. Includes a massive poster-map and the guide looks impeccably well done, will be useing it for my second playthough for sure. :)

only game play issue now asides from this is lagging fps, keeps kicking down from 60 to about 5-15 then back up again, i'm pretty sure it's a game issue not hardware, because it's not happened anywhere else before

Sounds like you're hitting a VRAM limit on occasion. VRAM -> DRAM paging.

Wanna get this, but I know I'll spend hundreds of hours on it and I just don't have the time at the moment :(

Jumped in for a quick game this morning, four hours later i just got off. :p

I've only had one CTD in about 8 hours of gameplay and using the dll fix for the micro stuttering framerate issue it's all good.

I just bought the boxed version of New Vegas, put the disc in to install and it basically opened up Steam and asked for the CD key, activated it then started downloading the game... why can't I just install from the disc? Whats the point in that?

How do you unlock the framerate?

I've forced v-sync off in CCC, it's also off in-game however it's still locked at 60fps and feels like v-sync is still on.

THIS GAME IS SOOOO ADDICTIVE! :D

I've put around 15 hours into this so far and I just can't stop playing. Plus when I play an hour or two just goes so fast. I'm finding this just as immersive as FO3, maybe even more so. Compared to FO3 there seems to be more to do, more characters and a many more sub plots and story lines. I'm also finding there are more options available. Many quests can be done in 2, 3 or 4 ways and with all the factions and groups it's really difficult sometimes to decide who to side with. I also like the way you can sometimes please everyone and maximise XP but you have to do things in specific order and it's not always possible due to some sacrifice.

I defintely think this feels like a sequel though. I feel there's enough new features to make it feel like a different game to FO3. Yes, there are a couple of technical issues like the framerate in some areas but other than that its been fine for me. I also think the quality of the graphics are pretty good. It's not cutting edge but its plenty good enough to not spoil the immersive gameplay and atmosphere. I also think the voice acting has been top notch so far. If you want to see proper bad voice acting then play Arcania Gothic 4.

The "boring" landscape everyone keeps mentioning is like the himalayas compared to FO3. The previous game I thought was very, very flat. But NV has a much more varied terrain. I'm also noticing the landscape is getting much greener and nicer looking later on in the game.

I would say if you enjoyed FO3 then you will love this game. The good points far outweigh the bad and IT DOES feel like a sequel not just an expansion.

I killed some travelling merchants and got a big gun (Can't remember what it was called - Something like a Boomer...) it was worth around 1100 caps! :p Sold it to get credit entry into vegas :p Couldn't be bothered to buy a fake passport :p

i used science or whatever on the robot to get in for free :P

anyway i found "pushy" as i said a few pages back and linked the youtube vid, was worth 4k

How sad. I've just found the ramshackle town of Sloan, and upon entering the Mining Office building I am laughing silly as the interior is a cut & paste job from one of the Fallout 3 quests fullstop.

Iirc it was the Republic of Dave mission (iirc) where you gain votes for a certain person to become 'governor' of a small village in Fallout 3.
