Fallout: New Vegas

I'm finding the combat aspect ok apart from the severe lack of ammo!!.

I thought that at first too until i started making my own, now I have way more ammo than i need. You end up with tonnes of different shells that you'll never use so just brake em down and make whatever it is your using.

I've not even tried making my own, I'll look into that, ta. I assume you need a workbench type thing of some sort?. Any idea where there is one near Goodsprings or Primm?.

There's a reloading bench (ammo) and a workbench between the store and the bar in Goodsprings, up against a wall. I can't remember if there were any in Primm, possibly in the casino with the car in the middle though.

When you use the reloading bench it tells you what ingredients are needed to make everything and also what existing ammo will break down into on the right if you hover over them.

I'm still getting annoying crashes when loading a save. I can't actually progress any further now, every time I save it will crash once I load it the next time I play!

Combat style run and gun and hope to live :P but in areas such as three stand grass the enemys come to you cant run or hide and i die the Mantis seem to over run me and kill me very easily =(

I am not finding it that hard to stay alive, i am playing in normal difficulty on hardcore mode. Granted I am only level 7 but have not died, got close when I managed to get rushed by 9 Ghekos.

Apart from where i screwed up at the start and put 15 points extra in unarmed, i am now spreading points on melee and guns. and will save as much of the rest for survivor and science etc. Iron sight is much better than FO3. I tend to land around 2 shots on an enemy at a distance then finish them off with a bat or something.

In hardcore mode it is important to heal up early and remeber that a lot of the heal per second items stack (maybe they all do not sure) So if its hairy u can use some cooked meat, healing powder, sunset drink thing, stimpack, water etc to get yourself healing quicker than you are likely to take damage, buffout seems to be the only thing I have found that gives u HP upfront when u get surprised, these seem rare to get hold of though.

Loving the game, took me 10 hours and 7 levels just to get to primm. Time to fire it back up (just had a F1 break, good result for Hamilton, though Alonso definitely has the edge now)

One thing i don't get is the whole Laser weapon thing. Don't understand which cells go into which gun. :P

always convert them and do it wrong :D

I actually tend to agree with you here, I do know what goes where but only because I have played FO3.
The whole crafting experience, requiring bits and bobs, a place to do it and a varying skill of certain levels is somewhat vexing.

There is so much within crafting, I fear too much for the uninitiated, and unlike lots of other RPG type events there is no logical progression.
No structure no ordering, no hiding of recipes until you reach the skill levels, just a random mismash in alphebetical order.

Can anyone give me a laymans terms guide to hacking terminals?. I recall being confuzzled with this in FO3 and I can't remember how to do it.

Ta, I'll go have a look at that just now.

Save corruption is pretty much ruining this for me :(

That and the random CTDs, generally poor performance, and for some reason the launcher repeatedly crashes after a game crash, requiring a restart before it works again.

New Vegas any good?

I'd be very grateful if people with Fallout New Vegas experience would let me know if it's any good or not.

I loved FO3 and spent a good bit of time on it...as such I have looked forward to this game for a while.

Two things in particular concern me about New Vegas:
(1) It's made by the company who made a total mess of the sequel to one of my favourite games, Knights of the Old Republic
(2) There seems to be a fair bit of griping about the game in this thread.

I'm not really bothered about bugs (as long as they get fixed!) as I won't be in a position to start playing for 2-3 weeks. I'm more interested in knowing if:
- the plot is gripping and feels like its worth following
- main characters are interesting and well scripted and acted
- the territory is interesting to explore
- guns / loot / perks feel like they're worth finding / earning

Thanks

Greg
