Fallout: New Vegas

Really cant decide wheather to get this game or not? never played fallout before and from what i have red in this thread it sounds good. How good is it graphically? I'm dying for a new 3rd person shooter cant be doing with 1st person cod etc really not my thing
 
^^For me, some of the graphics look better than I expected and are good, but some are just lacking in detail and somewhat washed out, which is perhaps an understatement. :D
 
Thats whats really been putting me off a little mate, i have watched a lot of trailors of the game and some in game footage and to be honest i didnt think the graphics looked that great but that just my own personnal opinion im sure people will disagree :D.

Still not sure though i really need a new game just have no idea what to get, dont wanna wait til april for gears of war 3, which looks friggging mental cant wait
 
^^Ahh Gears of War. :) There's a title that I never thought I'd like but I did really quite a lot but then there was that problem with saving your progress, then not being able to continue from your last save, so I gave it up in the end. Would still love to go back to that. Graphics were darn good as I recall.

Regarding New Vegas, I'd say you could just play it through vanilla then later on during another play, you could add some mods. Imo the game play more than makes up for the mixture of grahical quality. I certainly wouldn't say it's a bad looking title throughout, just no Metro 2033 or Gears. :)
 
^ the graphics are about the same level as fallout 3 which for today is just 'good'

honestly though Fallout 3 and NV aren't really comparable to most shooters, although if you're that into gears then Fallout probably isn't the best series for you
 
Thanks so much for your input mate much Can i just ask what you mean by play it through "vanilla" its proberly something simple but my brain is not working today :)

As for gears i had it on the 360 and loved every minute of it and as for multiplayer there is no comparrison its crazzzzyyyyyyyyy

Yeah the graphics are okay, they do look a bit dated though. Is this DX11 have noticed a few things like flags which appear like they might be tesselated?

I didn't get the classics pack, just got the steam caravan pack, have found 2 sets of binoculars and a shotgun so doesn't seem that great a deal!

Anyway 30 hours in and i'm at novac at last, i need to hurry up, black ops out in about 10 days. That should see me through the harsh cold winter months.
 
Been playing this for a while and in Hardcore mode so far. There quite a few differences when compared to Fallout 3 I've found.

Enemies will often attack in packs (including humans). If one spots you they will alert the rest. Can be annoying when you get overwhelmed but I guess it's part of the realism. You know you're gonna die when 12 Radscorpions are chasing you.

Decent weapons, apparel and items are much harder to find and I actually have to spend my caps to get this stuff. There's also like twice as many weapons available to which is good.

I like the crafting but some ingredients are so hard to find. Caravan Lunches for example need a Fresh Pear which I've only ever found one off. You also need to carry all the ingredients to a fire which is hard without becoming encumbered.

Go to your weapons screen, select the weapon you want and it says in the corner press R to repair and X to mod. As for the ammo, you can either equip your weapon and then go to the ammo screen and select the ammo you want, or just press '2' with your gun out and it will reload with the next type of ammo.

On a different subject does anyone here use melee/unarmed much? I've just started using a character focusing on it and am finding I am using a TON more stimpacks than before, I may have to try and rush for the BoS quests so that I can wear the power armour for some much needed DT.

I was thinking of making an unarmed char, it seems there's a lot of stuff focussing on it (perks and the like)
 
Ok i got this and its ok i guess tho textures are bit low res for my liking. Nicked most stuff i can from the docs house and got to go to salon, i spotted it with the neon sign but when walkin about outside it kinda pauses for a sec like its buffering or loading somit. Can i get rid of this? Also any tweaks to improve visuals or anything u think i might need. Was the multicore and memory fixed in this game from fo3 as iirc i had to edit a ini to increase the memory and core usage to better values as it was by default using values for consoles which were pants lets be honest. Got the DL and stuff, u reckon that expensive gun u get, cant recall the name, is best to use so far.

Oh and how do u holster ur weapon with the 360 pad. Gona play this with it instead of m and kb i think. I got the gun out but no button was making it holster and had to disarm through pitboy which is not a good way to do it as takes too long.
