I've finished a play through last week and i'm a little disappointed with the perks ..... Most of them seem to be quite useless compared to older Fallout games. I took Wild Wasteland straightaway and only found about 4 or 5 "????" things and it feels like a wasted perk![]()
*Spoilers*
Be careful with killing the Van Graffs, if you do that you lose the ability to resolve Cass's companion quest the "good" way, this means you can't take cass in if you are on the quest to bring her to the Van Graffs unless you want one side dead.
You have to chose to fail one quest or the other, there are 3 choices essentially, take Cass in and let them kill her, take cass in, resist their decision and kill them (no small task) this then means you have to finish Cass' quest by killing the Caravan woman, alternatively don't take Cass in and complete her companion quest the "good" way.
One thing I'm not sure of is whether or not you can complete Cass's quest the good way, i.e gathering evidence and THEN take her in to the Van Graffs, might try it on a future play though.
Just finished it, feel the same about this as I did Fallout 3, you should be able to go back to the wastelands and mess around
***Possible Spoiler***
Well I think I might have had it now. Got to the mission where you have to protect President Kimball but no matter what I do he gets his head blown off and I fail the quest. If I shoot the person I *think* is responsible before the assasination then all the NCR turn hostile. If I try and get up on the podium to pick their pockets and take the weapons the NCR terminate me with extreme prejudice. Have I foobared my main campaign or can I go back to Mr House and pick up the next mission?

2) One of the engineers in the crowd has a remote detonator in their pocket (its the one that never claps at the president's comments). I just stealthed and pickpocketed it from him, he then just runs towards the president with a knife.

Is it me, or are energy weapons pretty ineffective in this game compared to Fallout3?
In Fallout 3 the plasma rifle was the pimp-daddy of weapons, but in this it seems pretty useless... The gauss rifle is decent, but again not as effective as sniper / anti-materiel rifle - plus it uses 5 MF cells with each shot!
I got my energy weapons skill up to around 75, in the expectation that I would be able to use game-changing weapons, but now I feel a bit like I've just wasted the XP... Guns for victory.
