Farming Simulator 19 - Just Popped Up On Steam!

Just got it from epic store cos its free.

I had a problem with it saying no sm3.0 installed but i have a vega 56, seems fix was to edit game.xml and change from dx 11 to 10. So i start the game its in 12xx res so i change it to 2560x1440 as my monitors that so thats fixed. Then i try a tutorial with game settings very high.

Game looks low quality and stuttery and slow mouse movement when looking around. Noticed in afterburner that its 30fps ish and my gpu isnt being used and cpu is 25% used. I change it to medium settings, seems smoother but still rubbish fps and now i notice a lot of pop in and it keeps changing pop in (lods) from one state to another i see this on the details on the thing to my right when i start the tutorial the black bits like ladder i think on the domed building just switching quality constantly. Edit - Its like shadows switch from one state to another constantly and it annoys the heck out of me)

Is there a fix for any of this, is it because i was forced to change to dx 10 mode on it (thinks nvidia paid for this to limit amd users to dx10) otherwise really shocking hotfix needed to even start the game....

I just want nice visuals, my gpu not to be 500core 300mem but 1500 core 800mem as it should and use the cpu more and be 75fps with no tearing (got freesync but not working as under 40fps but even then its not working above 40, weird.

@SkeeterUK that's not an especially common problem now, but there were a few instances around especially when FS19 was first released. Most were solved by updating graphics drivers, but I wouldn't expect a user here to have that issue.

DX10 while a workaround doesn't run nearly as well as DX11. You can try posting your log file (stick it in a spoiler tag as it can be quite long) and I'll take a look, but I doubt there's an obvious fix. The log can be found in C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2019\log.txt

It's not an AMD-specific issue either. AMD hardware has always been second best performance wise in Farming Simulator, but they usually work perfectly well.

How would this suit a 5 year old? My son loves tractors and combine harvesters. I could set him up in the sitting room with it.
It's PEGI 3, so it's suitable. There's a bit of a learning curve for playing properly and maximising profits and things, but I doubt he'll care about that. The game is essentially a driving game, so he should be fine.

Don't install the Seasons mod for him. It's a brilliant mod, but it adds a fair bit more realism, micro-management and planning to the game, so probably not best for a young child.

Plenty of good British-themed maps around if you want the traffic on the correct side of the road and things too. Marwell Manor, Oakfield Farm (both real maps) and Greenwich Valley (fictional) are excellent British maps which can be downloaded from the in-game ModHub. None of them work well with the "build your own farm" feature, so if that's something he'll want it's best to stick to one of the default maps.

Turned out i had pc on too long for a few days and sometimes it turned monitor off and when it comes back i think something must have stopped in the driver and hence the messages, a reboot fixed it tho thats after hours of googling and trying fixes, the editing the game.xml to d3d_10 or 12 instead produced crap performance but got ingame. And i unisntalled and reinstalled but nope, just then i thought ill try a reboot see if that works cos driver restart with ctrl shift and win key and b didnt work. Then it started to work. Just finished playing a few hours with a mate maxed out settings and great performance, the shadows thing, its the time x5 thing, if u lower it with 7 or 8 it slows the flickering shadows a bit.

Bugs the heck out of me that, to the point where I ended up turning them off. They're not too bad when you're moving, but they're awful when you're static. 1x is bad enough, but it gets progressively worse the faster you go, where 120x is so bad it's funny. It's to do with the new for FS19 live lighting and how often it updates (not often enough as it turns out, but I assume that's something limited by performance). I did report it as a bug when the game released, but they said it wasn't something they were able to fix for this version.

@sgavan That it true, but if you don't like the grind part the early game gives then you can cheat in money to get bigger machines for a bit less grind. You can either use the Money Tool mod, the Government Subsidy mod or just add the money in the savegame XML files (on the second line in C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2019\savegame*\farms.xml - though it will show the incorrect value when you load your savegame next time unless you also edit careerSavegame.xml too).

Is the level of description in this game sorely lacking?

Like, there's a current prices spreadsheet - but each of the items has only an icon, with no legend to tell you which is which.

And all the tools you can fit to the back of your tractor - you can see what they are in the shop, but once you've bought them and they're sitting on your farm - no labelling at all. All seems a bit undirected for a new player!

So far I played the 'New farmer' career which guided me for a while then set me free. I saw that my harvester had left a load of straw behind on the field, so I bought a baler, and made bales. Then I bought a tool for the front of the tractor to collect the bales. Although the one I bought was a bit hopeless as there was then no way to transfer them to a trailer or something so I could take them to sell.

The quickest and easiest option for bales is the autoloading trailers, though they aren't in the base game now. You can get a round one here and a square one here (both made by GIANTS themselves; either download them and stick them in C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2019\mods or get them from the in-game ModHub and they'll install automatically). There are a few more options in the Anderson DLC should you come to buy that at any point.

The cheapest option, assuming you bought the bale spike for loading them, is to get the cheapest grain trailer (the Strautmmann SEK 802), which can be configured to work as a bale trailer or a grain trailer up to 12,000L. To change it you'll either need to buy a placeable Vehicle Workshop (one can be bought in the shop) if the map doesn't have one or take it back to the shop to the yellow area where you sell vehicles.

The non-bale option is to use a loading wagon, which gathers loose straw (or grass) in a trailer which can then be sold or used as animal bedding and feed. Harder to store, but cheaper than working with bales.

You're right that the game isn't always obvious or intuitive. There is a basic help menu (escape menu then the final tab at the top) but it doesn't give that much detail (handy for knowing what animals need though). Feel free to ask anything though.

Cheers. I was also wondering about buying or leasing things without having to drive to the shop to then pick them up - but I'm assuming the vehicle workshop you mention (or another similar placeable building) is the answer to that?

If I miss out the baling altogether, can I just plow the straw swath (I think that's what it called it) into the field?

No, the workshop is for changing options on tractors (eg tyres to narrow or doubles) and repairing vehicles*.

With this mod you ought to be able to to reset the delivery point for vehicles, though I've not tried it myself.

Regarding the straw swatch, yes you can plough it in fine (same with cut grass). For the record once you get a more expensive seed drill you might not need to plough at all. Several drills are "direct drilling" meaning you don't need to prepare the ground first. Those drills are listed in the store with the info:

"With a seeder/planter you can sow fields. Additionally, this machine offers the possiblity to seed directly (no previous cultivating or plowing necessary".

* Keep checking the wear status of your equipment. For vehicles it's the bar with the spanner in the hud (left side). For equipment such as ploughs it's in the escape menu, third tab in. Anything below 70% will start operating slower and vehicles will lose power, so it's a good idea to repair such items daily.

I got it when it first came out Free on Epic, I think its very good but I do agree with a previous post about just having icons and no legend on various parts and that you have these tools and there is no pop up help to tell you what they are for.
There is also a problem with moving pallets, they stick on the forks and you can't get them off, it seems the pallets have no weight, you have to be careful when transporting them as they slide off the trailer very easily.
I have seen mentioned a mod in which the forks retract so make it easier, but they are on what look like dodgy Russian sites with loads of download buttons to click and the one you want isn't obvious so you could end up downloading all sorts

@phil-k With the pallets make sure you have them on the forks straight. It's very easy to get them in at a slight angle so you get it through the gap at the front, but under the gap at the back. They do tend to stick if that happens.

As for moving items on a trailer, a proper trailer will have straps which hold down pallets and bales. All of the in-game trailers (and most mod ones on the official ModHub) have such straps (note that the 'low loader' trailers don't have them as they're for vehicles, which don't work with straps yet). To use them load the bales or pallets and get out of the vehicle and move along the side of the trailer. A green preview strap will appear where the straps can be added and you can fasten it by pressing the 'R' key (it will tell you in the F1 help menu). You can also fasten all belts by getting into the vehicle connected to the trailer and pressing the 'L' key.

It's handy for preventing moving pallets and bales while loading more of them as you can load them over the straps, then just unstrap and restrap.

PS, if you're moving pallets of seeds and fertiliser and find them annoying or tedious then you can use these placeable refill tanks (made by GIANTS themselves). They automatically refill and you buy your seeds/fertiliser/liquid fertliser/herbicide) from them. The cost for using them is 1.3x higher than than if you were filling by hand though (not much in the grand scheme of things considering the convenience).
