Fastest you've been on a public road.

Wow I think we need further details on this please :)

We did a day for JK, Gordon Ramsey and Duncan Ballantyne, a couple of weekends ago where they came to Millbrook to test out the Veyron.

There were two cars and four drivers and we took turns showing the capabilities of the car to the guests.

I had drawn the "Long straw" and got to do the high speed runs around the bowl.

Firstly a quick background in case you don't know.

The high speed bowl at Millbrook is 2 miles in circumference and has 5 lanes, the neutral steer speed in lane 5 is 100mph, neutral steer means you can take your hands off the steering wheel and the car will go round the bowl without any steering input needed, any faster or any slower than 100mph, and the car will drift up or down the banked bowl.

Anyway we had the car we had the data gear and we had guests saying "what can this beast really do?"

So off we went, the car gathers speed rather quickly, as you can imagine with all that torque, however I found that at high speed it is a real struggle as the bowl at Millbrook is really too small for this car. At 160 plus I was putting over 125 lbs of force in to the steering wheel to keep it on the track, (and boy did my arms know it the day after). The back end did get rather twitchy at really high speed, so I backed off and slowed to around 160-170 where if felt more stable, another downside to driving on a bowl is the wind shifts direction all the time, so we were getting a few nasty side gusts on occasions.

After a few laps when we came in the techs checked the car over and found the tyre temps differed by nearly 50 degrees from the inside tyres to the outside as they had been working so hard.
The Data guys said we had maxed out at 198.7mph which was equivalent of around 225-230mph in a straight line.

I was really gutted I had not made the 200 as the only person to have done over 200 at Millbrook is Tiffany Dell with the McLaren F1 a few years ago.

The Bugatti guys there said they would let me know next time they go to Nardo and I can get a go there, hopefully in about a months time.

120 on the back of a bike

never been so scared to be honest, feels allot faster than your going when youve got some plastic coated handles holding you on

195 indicated 4 up in my mates modded cossie.

or 171mph on my bike - CBR600. went quicker than that briefly on my mates R1, but cant be exact.... around 180ish - again it was modded.

my best though just because of the car.... 145mph in an XR2!!! stock engine but rally filter and exhaust, that thing flew for a 1600!!!!

all speeds are indicated btw. :)

195 on a speedo will have been little over 170mph. I dont know the first thing about cosworths but i thought i'd point it out if it makes it any more plausable.

Genuine 135 on my wee SV, redlined in top. But it feels pretty fast when the engine's about to explode :) Gets from 0-100 in around 10 seconds, takes a fair bit longer to get from 100 to 135 though... "COME ON! JUST ONE MORE MPH!"

yay first prize for spotting 'indicated' ;)

he needs a 6 speed box to be fair as he gets on the limiter in 5th far too quickly.

the 7 speed motorsport 'box has been available from Boreham for 10 years.
it's a little expensive though.

if your friend can afford it, tell him to try to obtain an MS90.

he looked at a 7speed box... but 15k is too much lol.

ms90 gearbox though eh... what car is that from? or is it a specially built one?

Just shy of 180 indicated.

e-penis ++, but really quite silly if I'm honest.
