Feel like I'm missing out on some low end *Solved with XXLS400*

If I were to plump that much on a subwoofer id have an oled TV! I could buy a 500 quid suvsubwoo but I need to allocate funds to a mortgage! I may consider 300 max for a sub

@hornetstinger means well but he is rather out of touch with reality.

Back in the world of mortgages and other bills, the last couple of Monoliths went for under £300. You might end up with a less popular colour or something cosmetically challenged, but if Ebay completed sales are any guide, then it is something achievable. One concession you'll have to accept though is "buyer collects". These things weigh a tonne, and few owners keep the box, so the logistics of shipping are a bit of a hassle. Then there's the cost. BK have a deal with their courier firm, but buying shipping as a private seller is a far more expensive proposition. Be prepared to drive.

Given the extra cabinet size and the bass port, the Monolith will go deeper and louder than the XXLS400, but you will have to be a bit more careful about where you put it. However, if you've got the space then it's doubtful you'll need anything bigger or louder in the average British living room.

I've got a mortgage and bills yet able to afford svs ultra...if I really wanted that one. Yes I would spend £1500 on sub.

As for ported. Yes above the port tune it'll play louder than similar driver and amp in a sealed cabinet but below port tune it drops off rapidly and with increasing amount of thd , driver excursion and port chuffing. This is why a sub sonic filter is paramount if bk had option with monoliths I'd pay the extra for this.

The sealed sub will play flatter and the slope is smaller.

There's a reason why my old svs cs ultra 13 was size of a wheelie bin, native 20h tune. I'd hope subs from other makes are tuned to this, not 25, 30 or 35hz

I'm quite unprepared I don't have a driving license :p

And I save about 200 odd quid a month, that with holiday's and other things equates to finding it quite touch to cough up for a subwoofer.

Alright, if you want to get down to brass tacks, it's about disposable income and priorities.

Just because you've made certain choices, it doesn't follow that everyone looking for a sub should follow your path. Where someone has unrealistic objectives - say trying to get filling-loosening bass from a £200 1ft cube - then I think it's valid to point them at products that will achieve it. At least they'll be better informed and can make some more appropriate choices.

However, where an enquirer is working on a fixed budget, do you really believe that they're going to spend 5 or 10 times what they planned just to fit in with your idea of an acceptable level of bass?

12" 300w. So similar to my svs 12 sealed box.

More than enough for stereo, drama movies,, TV series and music concerts.

Just don't expect pounding earth shattering bass for movies.

In a small to medium size room it'll go loud enough but lacking .

Bit like a old metro could do 70mph, it's just that you won't want to when it reaches that speed it's shaking rattling

What's your idea of earth shattering bass, mine isn't your idea I guess?, my Logitech Z5500 can shake my livingroom probably the whole flat watching a movie or playing movie, it's a 10" ported sub, are these subs not going to be as loud as the 10" Logitech? (Yes I know the quality will be FAR superior on the BK / Most proper subs)

So what sort of sub do you need to match the loudness / go lower and sound great?

I like the look of the

Monitor MRW-10 Subwoofer

10", Ported. £350

Could try and find second hand pc plus, that'll destroy the Logitech whilst offering lower bass.

Avoid the bash models.

They take up less space than a regular ported box, they're 16" tube.

Wow turns out a lot of money needed to beat the sub!

Maybe in terms of sheer loudness per Pound spent, then the Logitech has an advantage. But in terms of what matters when trying to reproduce music and movies accurately, the Logitech is out of its depth.

I'll give them their due, they were clever in spotting the opportunity to up the game in the PC speaker market. They worked out that the PC gaming crowd were prepared to spend a chunk of change more than most other companies expected in order to get a more visceral sound experience. They took a leaf out of the Bose book: Produce something that goes thump thump thump and make it go loud. So what if it distorts a hell of a lot; so long as it's loud and boomy they could fool a lot of folk in to thinking it's a good subwoofer.

Don't get me wrong; compared to the PC speakers around at the time it was launched, the Logitech kit represented the gold standard in the PC Peripherals world. It's just that gold in that class doesn't count for much in the Home Cinema and Music markets

I just struggle to understand what am I going to get for 300 quid, am I going to be underwhelmed if I want to crank it up with some music or stock a movie on ?
