Feel like I'm missing out on some low end *Solved with XXLS400*

So, what is your budget? 150 or 300? £300 will get a subwoofer that is worlds apart from the subwoofer that costs £150.

If you're used to a Z5500, a £300 subwoofer will not disappoint. You're talking about proper hi-fi equipment here.

I'm a bit of a bass head so recently added a BK Monolith+ to an already decent front sound stage with floorstanders and was (still am) blown away by the thing... as are my neighbours.

Do not even try to compare a PC speaker system with a decent hi-fi subwoofer. Buy an XXLS400 and you will not be disappointed.

Ideally I'd love to pay £250 but yes 300 at a push. I'm worried about delivery seems like it takes a while to deliver subs and God knows if I'd be in or not

I noticed you've already looked at the XLS200. BK have an outlet store on eBay where there can be some quite significant savings over the price of a 'new' subwoofer. There are a couple of B grade XLS200s available at the moment for £289, or an XXLS400 for £389.

What's your primary use, music or movies? A decent subwoofer can last a long time so it's worth buying the best you can now and not wishing you'd gone for a bigger/better model in the future. You want a subwoofer to be able to grow with the system. If you were to change the speakers in a year or two and find the little subwoofer doesn't quite cut it anymore, you'll feel as though you wasted your money.

You could use something like PP credit and get 0% for 4 months just to soften the blow. I did this when I bought my Monolith and then used birthday/Christmas money to pay it off although I know not everyone will want to go down that route.

BK used DPD to deliver my sub. Turn around from ordering was about a week (slight delay because I wanted a white grille) and updates were frequent. Intrestingly, DPD were happy to collect the sub from BK but refused to ship it from my local depot unless I had a forklift truck to remove it from the van  Not that you'll have that problem with an XXLS though!

I'm trying not to use anymore credit, I feel I can afford it at the moment and I may consider some floorstands in a year or two, maybe then get a new amp and a center speaker to have surround, I use my system for music, movies, tv, games, all round really. Sounds good if they use DPD as I know you can pretty much customise delivery time.

Don't bother with cheap floorstanders. You can buy decent second hand speakers bothers just bought pair of kef q75 for £100. Originally £1000.

That's amazing value I have bought celestion a spreakrs for about 1/5 to 1/7 off

You can either use the RCA output into the left RCA input on the subwoofer, or if buying a BK sub, use the supplied Neutrik cable. This will take the feed directly from the speaker's binding posts on the amp. Probably no need to do this if you have a subwoofer output on the amp, but it's an option for those that don't.

I'm not sure you need Monolith levels of bass in a flat. If you're looking for some lower end fill in for your speakers and some grunt for movies, an XXLS will be perfect.

The Monolith will shake both your and your neighbours walls and is about the size of a small fridge.

Monolith can be a bit boomy for music when played around the port frequency but is absolutely brilliant at movies.

But if that's what you want, go right ahead! :D

It's 100 quid more, Monolith would probably destroy my room as well let alone the plus. I don't mind some boom, and I rekon I could put my XBOX One X on top of the sub so it'll be a nice stand lol.

£575 for monolith plus is very good, would be interesting what is better dual m+ or a £1200 sub.

Only about bk is find out if foam surround has coating for longer life, early foam surrounds from speakers in 70 and 80's perished within a few years.

Looks coated from pictures, and my Z5500 has foam surround, still going after 11 years so assume this will be better quality.

Got the XXLS400!!!!, 390 with all accessories, m8 spikes off the bay. I hope I'll be a happy owner of it for years to come ! Brand new from BKs bay store

i have an xxls400 and it's a brilliant sub. it's suited more to being an all rounder. whereas the monolith is more movies only. which is why i picked the xxls400 i play music through the AVR too.

one of those on the fly bass equalisers is recommended to get the best out of them. can't remember what they are called but they are expensive.

I decided against the Monolith due to size and the "better all rounder" of the XXLS400 :) Hope it'll be able to give a good punch when it needs to.
