Female summer dress

More objectively, from a purely aesthetic point of view, it is not exactly a certain size, but proportions for me (a 6ft tall girl who is size 6 will look anorexic to me, and likewise, a 5ft2 girl who is size 12 will look chubby - actually, i pull those numbers at random, I am not even sure how big is size 12 - but I think it gets the point across). Someone overweight/obese is someone who has too much fat in their body. Someone who look fat is probably someone who happen to have accumulated fat in area that make them less physically attractive. I differentiate the two. However, the former is very hard to tell. Few would tell you their weight unless they are particularly confident, and even fewer know their body fat % - I know many girls who dislike going to the gym on the basis that it make them heavier. I tell them that it is probably because they are gaining muscle and are losing fat, but it doesn't change their mindset. In their mind, more weight = fat.

Surely just judging ppl on appearence makes them a bit wierd though?
Sure. But I also think it is rather self-righteous and weird to claim that physical attractiveness is irrelevant. It isn't everything, but it is part of a larger equation. Would you rather look at someone physically attractive or someone physically unattractive (based on your own criteria)? There you go.
Guess what, it goes both ways. If most men prefer woman they don't consider fat (amongst other things), most women prefer men of certain height (amongst other things). Physical attraction is something very basic - since we are more complex creatures, we have developped other values, but most likely are not going to forget our most basic coding so soon.
Now it is something those of us who aren't born supermodel don't like to hear, but it doesn't mean it is not there.

I have never understood this, it's an absolutely ridiculous mindset. These people must have absolutely no common sense whatsoever.

Will have to check out the whale tails at home as IT will be spying...

Another thing to ask... boys, does it bother you if girl's bra straps are showing?

(Just trying to keep the thread on topic:p)

BB x

Only if they're not old, overweight and sunburned :D

- Please don't take that the wrong way ;)

Like I said, how 'fat' is fat? What do you consider to be fat?

Size 10? 12? 14? 16? 18?

No idea about sizes tbh....but if a girl is wearing a skintight top and her belly is hanging down over her jeans, then shes fat. If theres like 5 rolls of fat on her sides, shes fat.

Sometimes I find myself wondering why we don't have more female regulars on OcUK, its comments like some of those expressed here that make me think 'actually I'm not surprised at all :('

Both this and the " Living with men make women fat " thread ... I despair sometimes I really do

There is so much pressure on women to look that perfect size 8 , not have an inch of fat on her and then we get posts like these ..

Some members seem to forget this is not some private little boy's club and that there are women reading these forums and getting hurt and upset by some of these comments - especially when they are currently busting a gut trying to lose some weight :/

It isnt becoming more blatant, its been on the forum as long as the forum has been here.

Not quite sure how its sexist to say a woman is attractive...I never go into those threads but I cant imagine how it could be sexist. Most of the pics posted are models and the like.

Well, I think there are schools of thought which say it is, especially in the manner in takes place in such threads (I try to avoid them too), but I'm not about drive this thread completely off topic and turn into Germaine Greer  .

I have had to let my belt out another notch recently and I have noticed the button on my jeans is straining a little more. Occacionally there is a flash of furry white belly as I stretch to reach the last Grab Bag of cheese and onion off the back of the shelf.

Would the perfect specimens of masculinity like me to cover up too? Maybe a bhurka for everyone over a Medium?

Just a thought.

Oh and

I don't think the conversation in this thread has been too bad to be honest.

Sunama AthlonTom and Vent have all given mature and thoughtful responses and they're not the only ones.

If everyone bit their tongue and with held an opinion every time it might offend someone then the boards would be empty as most things can be construed as offensive in someones eyes.

As long as it's sensible and not blatantly ripping people down for the sheer sake of it then I don't see a problem.

Oh please, that's hardly the opinion that's been offered in this thread so far. Women wearing crop tops which places on display an overhanging gut permanently is hardly the same as someone leaning over to reach something or flashing skin occasionally.

Murf this is what I wrote earlier and I think it still applies, I don't think its as easy as people would like to make out for young women to fit in with a peer group if they are over weight due to the fashion industy. Most won't want to be shopping at Evans at that age. Possibily older women have less excuse.

Matblack said:
They are indeed and the problem is that if you want to be fashionable, which most women do want to be, then you are limited in what you can buy, just like us chubby chaps.

Womens fashion is designed around women who are very skinny (what designers like to design for and the media says is the proper shape for a woman). These clothes don't translate well into larger sizes and often don't suit the larger figure or are just not made in anything past a size 14 so the women who want to look fashionable have to squeeze in or loose out.

Although there are places women can go to buy larger sizes these often don't follow fashion closely which is a shame. It is however one better than what fat blokes get which is NO shops on the high street which cater for larger sizes, which is a nightmare believe me :(

I was a thin kid so I had my time wearing the fashion stuff but I know I would be hugely disapointed if I had been relegated to High and Mighty right from the start, would have been even worse if I had been a girl :(

It does place young women in quite a tough position

I'll admit to knowing nothing about womens fashion and the difficulties of buying fashionable but also sensible clothes. However, I have noticed that some women simpy have no idea how to dress appropriately with regards to their size. They're not doing themselves any favours.
