Fidelity Super Resolution in 2021

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/ocknpl/edge_of_eternity_tech_qa_midgar_ceo_on_amd_fsr_vs/

First game with dlss and fsr, a interview with the devs about having both techs etc. Might be interesting read for some of you.

Interesting answers - says he likes fsr more because dlss requires more work, but it also sounds like he's using an outdated version of unity engine and an outdated version of dlss - says he likes FSR cause it was quick to implement but later he also said he had to replace the game's anti aliasing with a different type all together because fsr was losing too much quality.

Then when he compares the consoles he says he likes the Xbox because it will do AI images like dlss

Dlss 1.0 = shoulda gone to specsavers
fsr = has been to specsavers
dlss latest = has had laser eye surgery tho still sees ghosting/cataracts

FSR is more like has gone to a high end optometrist cause you have to run high resolution to get a good image which means you're a baller because you have a 1k graphics card already

Thats not true. DLSS in control, you can set the internal resolution to 540p and get a better than native looking 1080p.

10:35 - looks shocking like the native image. 540p @ 1080p vs 1080p. DLSS 2.0 reconstructs the sub pixel detail of the hair better than the native image.

Yeah thats a big and immediately noticeable difference between dlss and FSR and hence why dlss is better with fewer pixels - dlss can add back pixel detail that doesn't exist with it off, dlss is able to get you detail that you couldn't see before, where as fsr only takes away detail - you can set the level of detail removed but it never adds anything back

audio is probably even easier for AI because of repetition, once it knows what a drum sounds like and that it's in tune with the beat it should be rather simple to add in AI assisted sound.

but it's also not the best example - heck i've tried and I can't hear any difference between MP3's and Tidal's uncompressed Hi-Res audio.

And other animals have much better hearing than humans do, while we have superior eye sight

Let's see FSR do this

native 4k looks better

No it doesn't, please use a image editor and draw circle or arrows to the specific assets of the 4k you think is better

Apart from being sharper the dlss image has more defined lines in the towers in the background and overhead wires - some of the wires are even invisible on the 4k screen, not as bad as 1080p but still there

In the 2nd shot mesai, its only sharpening that makes it look different not really dlss, amd sharpening ris could easily make native look like dlss or the cas thing which is more or less same as ris. I reckon FSR with sharpening as it does anyhow could give results like that.

The game supports amd cas, so if the poster did the same 2nd shot test left with dlss, and right native but with fidelity fx cas turned on, it probs would look roughly the same sharpness then.

the 1080p image? Not a chance. FSR would make it sharper but all the overhead wires that are missing chunks would still be missing because FSR can't add detail back in

I always think DLSS is a bit of a con. If the card could run the game at "decent levels" whatever you determine that as there would be no need for DLSS. Its a cheap cheat for Nvidia to make the game performance look better than it is.

Its a cheap cheat for developers to get even lazier and not bother to optimize

Depending on the studio i highly doubt having to write custom code is a problem.
Lets not forget that being open source, devs may be willing to write the code and share it with others and they simply start building upon each others code. Some joe bloggs at home may be the one to even start it.
GDC is full of devs talking to other devs about how they get **** done.

That's why there are a million proprietary game engines because studios like to colobarate and share

There will be more comparisons now because the developement kit is released and it's open source

So in reality, anyone here could be adding fsr to their only game

Thanks for posting this and it sort of proves what credibile reviewers have been saying for weeks now. FSR and DLSS 2.0 (+) are very close in IQ in best case vs best case scenarios and you have to pixel peep to tell the difference. No matter how much the self-proclaimed DLSS experts try to claim otherwise, the underlying technology matters not one single jot, only the final result.

Would be good to see the same test repeated using lower end cards at 1080p
